A month ago we discussed the Deadpool film and Ryan Reynolds' ideal director choice for the flick in Quentin Tarantino. We know that is not likely to happen but in our posting we also talked about a scoop from CHUD that Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick could be the chosen pair to write Deadpool for Fox Studios.
Variety has now confirmed that the duo have been picked up by Fox to pen the script for the solo film about the "Merc with a Mouth." A perfect match in my opinion.
Zombieland was well-written, very funny and full of action which all meshes nicley with what a Deadpool film should be and for how the character's antihero action/comedy roots need to be portrayed. This is also not Reese's and Wernick's first venture into the comic book movie genre as they were the pair brought on by Sony to pen the script for Venom as well.
Ryan Reynolds is reportedly hard at work with physical preparation to bulk up for this Green Lantern shoot which begins in the summer. They've yet to lock down a schedule for the X-Men Origins: Deadpool production but if the script is done, there's a window at the end of summer. As for who the director could be? We'll still need to wait and see.
If all things fall into place and Deadpool begins later this year, we could see the film debut in the summer of 2011. Check out Ryan Reynolds' idea for the perfect Deadpool trailer.
Are you excited to see some official movement on the Deadpool movie?
