Highly anticipated sequel Zombieland 2 has cast Silicon Valley star Thomas Middleditch in a supporting role. Middleditch is the third actor confirmed to be joining the returning cast of this hit 2009 movie.

It's been almost a decade since fans met the survivors of the zombie apocalypse that set off the events of Zombieland. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Zombieland followes hypochondriac loner Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), who meets the wild, Twinkie-loving Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) on a trip home. The two team up and instead of going home, head out west in search of other survivors. Along the way, they meet sisters Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) and together, the group decides to not only go west, but have a little fun at an amusement park.

Variety reports that Middleditch has been cast in a supporting role in Zombieland 2: Double Tap. No details were released in the report on Middleditch's casting announcement, so it's unclear how he'll figure into the movie. News of his casting comes on the heels of earlier announcements that Zoey Deutch and Rosario Dawson were also joining the Zombieland sequel, and yes, there's also no information known about their characters either.

Middleditch joins the film amidst a successful run as the lead on HBO's Silicon ValleyZombieland 2 will be a return to the horror comedy genre for the actor, who previously starred in the tongue-in-cheek comedy The Final Girls with Taissa Farmiga, Nina Dobrev, and Adam DeVine. Zombieland 2 is also not the only high-concept genre feature on his plate. Later in 2019 fans can catch him in another highly-anticipated sequel, Godzilla: King of the Monsters. With much of the production information on Zombieland 2 shrouded in secrecy for the longest time, it seems that we're now getting an onslaught of information regarding the casting and plot for this sequel. Middleditch, Deutch, and Dawson will join original cast members Harrelson, Eisenberg, Stone, Breslin, and Bill Murray in a sequel that will center around the surviving humans from the zombie outbreak in Zombieland fighting evolved zombies and teaming up with other survivors.

The excitement around Zombieland 2 has been high since it became clear a sequel was in motion in the years following its release. The actors of the original Zombieland have expanded their careers in varying directions along the way, so it'll be interesting to see how their chemistry has grown and evolved since they last got together onscreen. Since Zombieland's release, the interest in zombie-themed fare has plateaued, with franchises like The Walking Dead and World War Z hanging on with the most minimal interest from fans or completely halted on production altogether. If anything can revive the hunger for zombie flicks we saw during the boom of the late 2000s, a very cheeky Zombieland sequel could potentially do that.
