Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist has been canceled by NBC after season 2, but there's hope the musical dramedy will find a new lease on life. Created by Austin Winsberg, the show stars Jane Levy as Zoey Clark, a computer programmer at SPRQ Point, a San Francisco-based tech company, who gains the power to hear other people's innermost feelings expressed as music, which she calls "heart songs."

In Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2, Zoey was promoted to manager of her division when her boss, Joan (Lauren Graham), left the company. Zoey was still mourning the death of her father Mitch (Peter Gallagher), and she was also trying to decide between her two love interests, Max (Skylar Astin) and Simon (John Clarence Stewart). As the season progressed, Zoey and Max officially became a couple while she balanced her love life, her family, and her job at SPRQ Point, which included new hires like George (Harvey Guillen from What We Do In The Shadows). Meanwhile, Zoey's best friend Mo (Alex Newell) got a new love interest, and Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2 ended with the shock that Max has also gained Zoey's ability to hear heart songs.

Despite the show's dedicated fanbase, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2's ratings fell compared to season 1, indicating low viewership was a major factor in the cancellation. Season 2 averaged 1.8-million total viewers, down 10% from season 1, and it was also down 17% in the key 18-49 demo. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist's ratings weren't helped by NBC moving its time slot four times during its two season-run, and season 2 saw a hiatus from February 9, 2021, to March 28, 2021, where it was replaced by the more popular Young Rock and Kenan. NBC officially announced Zoey Extraordinary's Playlist's cancelation on June 9, 2021, after negotiations to move the series to NBC's Peacock streaming service fell through.

However, producer Austin Winsberg is actively trying to find Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist a new home on a streaming service, which would benefit his musical series. As Winberg stated (via TVLine): “If we had the ability to not be so beholden to the network runtime, I mean, there are scenes I have to cut every week or songs I have to cut for time... To able to have a little bit more creative freedom and flexibility there could be great.” Zoey's Extraordinary's Playlist always felt more like a streaming show than a broadcast network series, so one of the streaming services picking it up would better service the show and the audience who would prefer to binge-watch Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist.

While it's not clear which streaming services Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist is being shopped to, the series already streams on Hulu, so that's one strong possibility. Meanwhile, Winsberg and Lionsgate TV are dedicated to getting Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist a third season, stating: "In a world where finding loyal and passionate audiences is never easy, we believe there must be a home for this great, award-winning show with a passionate and dedicated following."

Winsberg also wants to mobilize Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist's devoted fans to help save the show. In a series of social media posts (via Twitter), Winsberg said, "Right now, I refuse to believe the show is dead. There is too much love and goodwill, and the fan base is incredible..." He added that he believes Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist "can have a real chance somewhere else. But the more fan support we can throw behind it - the better." The show's creator urged fans, the cast led by Jane Levy, and the crew to tweet the hashtag #saveZoeysPlaylist to "make some noise." Hopefully, the beat will go on for Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 3.
