This post contains SPOILERS for Avengers: Infinity War
Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, posts a message thanking fans for coming out to support Avengers: Infinity War in its opening weekend. Many expected Infinity War to be one of the biggest films of the year, but it somehow surpassed commercial expectations put out by analysts. The latest chapter in the MCU got off to the largest start in history, completely annihilating The Fate of the Furious' worldwide debut record and topping The Force Awakens' all-time domestic opening weekend mark. In just a matter of days, Infinity War has already topped the global total of Justice League, and it hasn't opened in China yet.
In the aftermath of Infinity War rewriting the history books, several Hollywood personalities have congratulated Marvel on their incredible accomplishment, while those directly involved with the studio have thanked moviegoers for helping the film find astronomical success. The latest to express gratitude is Saldana, who is no stranger to acclaimed blockbuster tentpoles.
During some downtime in her Avatar trailer while waiting to film scenes for the upcoming sci-fi sequel, Saldana took to her Instagram account to share a heartwarming video where she tips her hat to the millions of fans who went to see Infinity War during its first three days. Saldana comes across as genuinely humble in her post, remarking how viewers' enthusiasm is infectious and motivates her. You can check it out for yourself in the space below:
It's worth wondering if this will be the only time Saldana will have a chance to address Marvel fans in this manner. Gamora was one of Infinity War's more shocking deaths, as she was sacrificed by Thanos so he could acquire the Soul Stone. When discussing Gamora's fate, the actress spoke about her time in the MCU as if it was in the past tense, but she's also hinted she'll be back for Avengers 4. There are ways for Gamora to be in Avengers 4 without reversing her death, so it'll be interesting to see what happens. That being said, it was reported last year that Gamora is going to have a significant role in the in-development Guardians of the Galaxy 3, so odds are she'll be brought back to the fold someway. It's very clear that not all of the Infinity War casualties are permanent, and it's hard to imagine another Guardians film without Gamora.
Several viewers will also no doubt find the humor in Saldana sharing this from the Avatar set, given James Cameron's recent criticisms of the superhero genre. Over the past year, the director has become infamous for his rather blunt opinions on comic book adaptations, saying he hopes audiences lose interest in these films soon. Based on the box office numbers for Infinity War, it looks like that day is still far away.
