Genshin Impact's HoYoverse announced its new title, Zenless Zone Zero, on May 13, inciting speculations and excitement that have captured players' interest all over social media. The teaser trailer was first seen on the HoYoLAB website and subsequently posted to YouTube. While players, called "Proxies" in the game, wait for the release date to be announced, they can glean quite a bit about the game from watching the teaser trailer, reading cryptic tweets and posts, and browsing the game's website.

In Zenless Zone Zero, a disastrous event called a sub-Hollow occurred in the city called New Eridu but is now under control. "Citizens" are assured the threat has been contained and that they may safely enter the city. Titled "Welcome to New Eridu - Where Humanity Rises Anew!" the trailer for Zenless Zone Zero description continues to reveal exciting news for gamers. It is here that not only the city's name is revealed, but also the chance for players to qualify for the Zenless Zone Zero Tuning Test.

Other distinguishing features found in the teaser trailer are the urban art style and interesting characters. Even the electronic music gives a futuristic vibe that excites and entices the player to jump right in. Character design is a major element of what's shown off in the trailer, with cat ears, a tail, and even full-on Moe anthropomorphism of possible bear- and cat-like characters prominently displayed, invoking thousands of comments and over 300K views in the short time it's been up on YouTube.

Zenless Zone Zero Will Have A "Tuning Test" Closed Beta

Zenless Zone Zero Tuning Test Beta

There are at least two ways a player can enter the Zenless Zone Zero beta test. One is via the game's website, where interested players answer various questions about their interests, which platform they will play on, and the specs of their preferred device. Once these questions are answered, they're prompted to provide an email address, verify it with a code, and agree to the terms.

The second way to get into the Tuning test is to participate in the trailer discussion on the HoYoLAB website. Once there, browse to the Events tab and select Zenless Zone Zero to see events for the game. As of Friday, May 13, there are two events available. "The First Trailer" event is live and ends on May 23, and 100 people will be chosen among the participants to receive either a Bangboo pillow or Tuning test qualification. Winners are to be announced Monday, May 30.

Not only can interested players enter the first event, there is also a second event running concurrently with the 1st. For this event, Proxies are to follow Type Ⅱ and reply to the post with their luckiest moment. Like the 1st event, 100 people will be chosen to receive closed beta qualifications, or 50 character stands. Remember that event time zones are UTC+8, and winners will be announced on the event's website via notifications and are urged to "pay attention!" when the 30th rolls around. It is also advised to read all rules to enter the Zenless Zone Zero events carefully to ensure a successful entry.

Zenless Zone Zero's Story & Universe

Zenless Zone Zero Story Universe

While Zenless Zone Zero doesn't currently have a content roadmap like Genshin Impact, information continues to leak out about its universe. An article featured on HoYoLAB's site confirms a supernatural theme, speaking more of the "Hollows." These supernatural events in the game snowball with no warning where dimensions become entangled, allowing strange and terrifying monsters to wander freely.

Over time, New Eridu, the last urban city to survive the apocalypse, attracted most survivors to the thriving metropolis. New Eridu prospered by exploring the Hollows, and the city's administration developed a way to monetize the ever-growing phenomena. The Zenless Zone Zero website initially teased very little, but now revealed are power struggles between controlling enterprises, and other groups that benefitted from the industrialization of the Hollows, including conspirators and fanatics, who also fight for control. It is unclear who these fanatics and conspirators are, but they will clearly play a significant role in the game's storyline.

What's striking about the game is that players will experience two realities that oppose one another. While the city appears peaceful and safe, players are aware of the warped reality behind the façade. Players are referred to as a "Proxy" and will have access to playable characters similar to Genshin Impact. Proxies help guide other characters from the game as they explore the Hollows. Many want to enter the Hollows for their own purposes, and proxies are vital to achieving their goals. Not only are players to guide their clients through this dangerous territory, but they are also to protect them. As the player progresses through the Hollows, fights battles, and achieves the goals of those they guide, more of their story will be revealed.

Zenless Zone Zero Will Have Multiple Factions

Zenless Zone Zero Factions

Four factions were also shared that players will be involved with. Only 3 of the four factions are named: Gentie-House, Belobos Industries, and Victoria House Keeping. It is the third faction that remains unknown at this time. Though only four factions are revealed at this time, it is possible there are more to be discovered, as HoYoverse's Genshin Impact already had factions with goals that were substantively fleshed out. Little else is shared, and it is not clear if a player joins one of these Zenless Zone Zero factions or how they would gain reputation with them, if such a system exists. It's already known players will face enemies and monsters called Ethereals in the Hollows. However, only two types of Ethereals have been revealed. No names are given to these two, but both show angular bodies with a glowing green substance threaded through their forms. One has a sizeable humanoid appearance and carries a shield and a sword-like weapon, while the other sports an intriguingly avian look.

Zenless Zone Zero is shaping up to be an exciting action RPG from what's been shown off so far, and it is expected to be available on PC, mobile, and PlayStation. HoYoverse has delayed Genshin Impact 2.7 but continues to reveal bits and pieces about Zenless Zone Zero to its eager audience, and the anticipation grows for upcoming announcements.
