Industry insider Jeff Grubb recently teased an impending release of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on the Nintendo Switch. The iconic fantasy saga has received more than 20 installments since its premier in 1986, with older entires also receiving modern remasters for new generations of hardware. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask on Switch, for example, granted enhanced graphics to both classic titles without changing their retro art styles or gameplay.
Alongside new Legend of Zelda entries, like the beloved open-world adventure Breath of the Wild, high-definition remasters of older titles help to maintain the series' legacy. 2002's The Wind Waker, which sees players explore the sea in a unique aquatic adventure, was given a modern facelift on the Wii U back in 2013. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, an infamously dark entry in the Nintendo franchise, got a Wii U remaster of its own in 2016. The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess have yet to release on the Nintendo Switch, unfortunately, but the delay of Zelda: BOTW 2 has many fans hoping that these classic game will soon get updated releases.
As reported by GamingBIBLE, Switch ports of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD have been teased by gaming insider Jeff Grubb. In the latest episode of his YouTube podcast, Jeff Grubb's Game Mess, the insider states that the delay of Breath of the Wild 2 will likely motivate Nintendo to release one or both of the old-school remasters. Nintendo reportedly wants a Legend of Zelda game to release every year, whether it be a new game or a remaster, so The Wind Waker or Twilight Princess will likely fill the gap until BOTW 2 is ready.
While it was originally intended for a 2022 release, Nintendo recently announced that Zelda: BOTW 2 is delayed to Spring 2023. 2017's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild put an emphasis on exploration and creative puzzle solutions, leading to universal praise from fans and critics alike. The next entry in the fantasy series promises to follow in the title's footsteps, though very little information has actually been revealed about the project. Following its delay into 2023, it seems likely that another Zelda project will soon arrive to take Breath of the Wild 2's original 2022 release window.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are two particularly memorable entries in the long-running series, and Nintendo Switch remasters would be a perfect way to celebrate both titles. According to Jeff Grubb, Nintendo is determined to release new Zelda content on a yearly basis. While the delay of BOTW 2 has disappointed many fans, 2022 might still give fans new Hyrule adventures to enjoy.
