A skilled The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker player managed to set an incredible score in the adventure title's mail sorting mini-game. Originally available for the GameCube worldwide in 2003, the game received an HD remaster for the Wii U in 2013; and there are rumors that another Wind Waker remaster may launch for the Nintendo Switch in the coming years.

Even though The Legend of Zelda titles have changed drastically over the years, there are many core components present throughout a majority of its series installments. Collecting useful items, completing puzzle-filled dungeons, and saving the princess and - or - kingdom are some of the more well-known elements fans have come to expect. However there is an often overlooked, key aspect to the franchise's DNA: its mini-games. They come in many different forms, with some Zelda mini-games being more difficult than others. However, these additional activities are an extra level of content that is crucial part of the series' identity.

One shining example of these mini-games is the mail-sorting game on Dragon Roost Island from The Wind Waker. The mini-game sees Link match each letter - marked with six unique symbols - with the corresponding, correct shelf. Most importantly, the mini-game is set to the challenge of a 30-second timer. Once reaching Dragon Roost Island, players can return to the game as much as they desire in order to improve their scores and gain some extra rupees. Few, however, will likely ever reach the score of Reddit user Cutlession, who managed to correctly sort 41 letters, averaging more than one letter per-second.

Guinness World Records actually has an official world's highest score for the The Wind Waker mail-sorting mini-game: 36 letters. While Cutlession's milestone surpasses that total by a substantial margin, it is worth noting the Guinness record was made in 2005 on the GameCube version. The Redditor, meanwhile, appears to be playing the HD Wind Waker remaster, which does not seem to have an official record. Even though the mini-game is the same in both versions, the updated hardware and controls of the Wii U allow for a smoother and, therefore, faster performance.

After being in players' possession for nearly two decades, gamers appear to still be setting records in the 2003 The Legend of Zelda title, including a new The Wind Waker speedrun record. Cutlession's achievement may not necessarily be "official," but it is still impressive to behold. Correctly sorting more than one letter per second in this mini-game requires a response time that likely took hours - or maybe even years - to hone. That said, it appears Cutlession already has their sights set on 42.
