The Lightning Temple boss in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is Queen Gibdo, who unlike some of the other temple bosses, Link will actually have a chance to encounter before heading in to fight as she makes an appearance in an earlier fight before scurrying off.
Queen Gibdo is a large bug-like version of the traditional Gibdo enemies Link has likely already encountered in the Gerudo region, and she is the most difficult Temple Boss in the game. If Link has not already taken on the other Temple Bosses, consider unlocking the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower for a way to fast travel back and go complete the others first.
How to beat Queen Gibdo’s First Phase
Unfortunately, Queen Ghibdo is very mobile which will make this fight increasingly difficult. It’s recommended that Link stockpile arrows as well as stamina-boosting Zelda: TOTK recipes before heading into this fight because he will definitely need them. In her normal state, Queen Gibdo will have a couple of attacks, the first of which is a charge attack where she will come directly at Link. His best option is to dodge to the side to avoid taking any damage. The second of her attacks will be a tracking attack made of a sand beam that Link can also not really do anything about other than try to avoid.
Queen Gibdo will only become vulnerable after being hit with Riju’s Lightning Strikes or other elemental attacks. She will turn white in her vulnerable state to indicate that she has been weakened. During this weakened phase, she will also attempt to throw out tornadoes to attack Link.
Avoid the tornadoes, but keep in mind that this state is the only time Link will be able to get in any good melee attacks, so give it all he’s got. The majority of the first phase of this fight will be similar to what she was like when faced earlier outside the Temple.
The Queen can be hit a second time with another elemental attack to stun her and allow more damage to be dealt. For this, try something like an Arrow fused with a Zelda: TOTK Bomb Flower.
How To Beat Queen Gibdo’s Second Phase
Once she reaches half health, a cutscene will trigger and lead into the second phase of the fight. This is where the real work comes in. Queen Gibdo will not only now include a diving attack in her bag of tricks, but the Gibdo hives surrounding the fight will begin releasing Gibdo onto this Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom arena. Unfortunately, Link will need to shift his focus off the Queen for a little bit and destroy the hives so the Gibdo enemies don't distract him. These can easily be destroyed using arrows fused with explosive materials.
While destroying the hives, Link can use the beams of light to protect himself as the Gibdo are unable to enter these without being killed. Once all the hives are destroyed, Link can get back to his one on one with the Queen. From here, the fight is very similar to Phase One, knock off her armor and knock her down, so Link can attack. Keep in mind that though the tornadoes were in the first phase, there will be five of them now instead of three. Once she reaches the end of her health, the fight will be over and the Zelda: TOTK Temple Boss will be destroyed.
As with the other temple bosses, Link will receive a Heart Container for completing this fight. In addition, he will also unlock Riju’s Companion Avatar allowing him to utilize her Lightning Strike throughout the rest of his journey in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. If this is the last of the four available temple bosses, Link can now move on to the next phase of the quest, if not, any remaining temple bosses should be a breeze in comparison.
