Players could potentially witness a heartbreaking moment in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The Breath of the Wild sequel is scheduled to be released in May this year, but Nintendo has been tight-lipped about the game's plot. However, one can look at various setups in Breath of the Wild to speculate on events that could happen in the next installment of the Zelda series.

Despite Link and Zelda’s attempt to defeat Calamity Ganon in Breath of the Wild, it seems that the great evil will return in his Gerudo form after being sealed underground by some unknown power. According to several released trailers and teasers, Link will sport a mysterious arm that contains new abilities that players can use. There is also a high chance that TOTK will feature major, returning BOTW characters that will rise to protect Hyrule once more. Although it could be nice to see iconic characters from the previous game, such as Sidon and Purah, fans might have to say goodbyes to one character in Tears of the Kingdom.

Impa Could Pass Away In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

An exterior view of Impa's house in Breath of the Wild's Kakariko Village. Behind the building are the tall stone cliffs that surround the whole village.

Impa is one of the oldest characters in BOTW, and she witnessed and survived the fall of Hyrule in her 20s. After Link wakes up from his one-century sleep, Impa is approximately 120 years old when she reunites with the Hylian. While members of the Sheikah tribe appear to live long lives, it seems unlikely that Impa will be able to live much longer, which means that she could pass away in Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears Of The Kingdom's Purah Could Have To Witness Her Sister's Death

Legend of Zelda BOTW's Purah, a character that appears to be a child because of an accident with anti-aging technology, looking at the camera with her hands raised.

The tragic event could be even sadder if Purah has to witness her sister's death in Tears of the Kingdom. The scientist's body regressed to a young child due to a mishap related to the anti-aging Rune she invented for the Sheikah Slate prior to Breath of the Wild. Until she finds a way to reverse the rune's effect, Purah will have to age like a normal child, which means it is highly likely she will outlive Impa.

There is also a chance that Impa could fall in battle in Tears of the Kingdom. Fans can see Zelda getting into a dangerous situation in the released trailers, and Impa could attempt to protect the princess. Due to her old age, Impa is obviously not as spry as she used to be, and she could receive a fatal wound that ends her life. Although it might be a tragic event, it could also be seen as a fitting and heroic death for the Royal family’s shadow protector.

Of course, the fate of Purah and Impa in BOTW's sequel is not set in stone. Purah could try to use the anti-aging rune on Impa and prevent her possible death. If Purah manages to get the hang of the rune, it could allow Link to get Impa and Purah as reliable support that he could need in his fight against Ganon. Although there is not much information regarding The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's plot, the upcoming sequel could contain a heartbreaking moment where Purah must watch Impa passes away due to her old age.
