The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom could resolve a major horse issue that appeared in the previous Zelda game, Breath of the Wild. Unlike previous titles in the series, where players are given one horse as a mode of travel, Breath of the Wild introduces a horse-taming mechanic that allows players to find and ride any horse they like. The new mechanic gives a breath of fresh air to the series, and hopefully, it will reappear in Tears of the Kingdom alongside a fix for its one glaring problem.

In Breath of the Wild, players can also use various mounts besides a horse to traverse Hyrule, such as the Lord of the Mountain and the Master Cycle Zero. Although each mount has its own strengths and weaknesses, one of the best creatures that Link can ride in Breath Of The Wild is the Giant Horse due to its unlimited stamina and likeness to Ganondorf’s horse from previous titles in the series. While the released TOTK trailers have not shown any horse riding, it seems unlikely that the game will remove the horse-taming mechanic, since Link will seemingly still be exploring large swaths of Hyrule.

Epona Isn't In Breath Of The Wild Without Paying Extra Money

Although Breath of the Wild features various types of horses that could please many players, it fails to include Link’s iconic horse, Epona. Nintendo eventually added Epona to the game, but players must buy a specific amiibo to be able to summon her. It is rather disheartening to see such a legendary horse being pay-walled when it could've been freely obtainable in the base game.

Tears Of The Kingdom Could Have A Side Quest To Unlock Epona

Nintendo could avoid repeating the same mistake by allowing players to get Epona without paying extra money. BOTW’s sequel could have a side quest where players can obtain Epona as a mount. The mission could even reference the way Link meets Epona in Ocarina of Time by having the Hylian learn "Epona's Song" and use it to convince the horse that he is a friend in Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears of the Kingdom could also fix another horse issue by letting players call their mount from anywhere. In Breath of the Wild, horses could be rather cumbersome to use since Link can only call them to his side if they are close enough. If the horse is out of range, then players must find the nearest stable to get the missing mount. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has a chance to fix Breath Of The Wild's biggest problems, one of which could be solved by allowing players to obtain Epona in the base game without paying extra money.
