Nintendo has released the launch trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, showing off some of the dungeons and bosses players will encounter in the latest Zelda game for Nintendo Switch. Skyward Sword HD received impressive reviews and released on the console today, July 16, after being announced earlier this year.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is a remaster of the 2011 Nintendo Wii game. The title utilized the Wii's MotionPlus Remote, allowing Link more precise sword movements when attacking his foes. While players can use the Joy-Cons' motion controls for the Nintendo Switch remaster, the game also offers traditional controls, allowing more gamers to enjoy the Zelda prequel and ensuring that it can be played on Nintendo Switch Lite despite its lack of detachable Joy-Cons. Skyward Sword takes place before all other Zelda games, and is the very first title in the current and official Zelda timeline.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD release trailer, posted to Nintendo's YouTube page, showcases Link flying through the skies around the floating island of Skyloft, but also gives a good look at some of the darker areas of the game: boss battles and dungeons. Link is shown battling the whale-like being The Great Spirit Levias, and fighting with a Stalmaster mini-boss. The game's main antagonist, Ghirahim, appears towards the end of the trailer, which also features different common enemy types including Bokoblins and Froaks. As for dungeons, the video shares a glimpse at some of the many areas players will find themselves conquering, including Skyview Temple and the Sandship.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD was announced with mixed reception from gamers, as the original title is not one of the series' most beloved. The franchise is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, but Zelda-themed events and releases have been sparse, especially when compared to Mario's and Pokémon's birthday celebrations. During E3 2021 it was revealed that Skyward Sword and a Zelda Game & Watch would be the only titles released this year to celebrate the anniversary. The news came as a disappointment to many, as lots of players were hoping for Switch releases of classics such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess.

Players of the original Skyward Sword will be pleased to learn that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD has made many improvements over the Wii edition. Nintendo has been revealing lots of quality of life enhancements for the title over the weeks leading up to release, confirming several gameplay tweaks and improvements such as the ability to ignore the AI helper, Fi. As well as cutting down on filler content and offering the option of traditional controls, Skyward Sword HD includes full camera controls, allowing players to freely move the camera around Link. It may not be Wind Waker, but Skyward Sword HD is a game Zelda fans shouldn't pass on.
