Nintendo recently revealed a new Legend of Zelda game called Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and it's going to be a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The game is set to take place 100 years before the events of Breath of the Wild, and will reveal more details about the deadly war with Calamity Ganon, as well as those who fought in it.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity retains Breath of the Wild's unique art style, but its proves itself as a true Hyrule Warriors game in its combat. The combat in the trailer features different playable characters fighting in one vs. many battles, wiping out entire armies with their unmatched strength. These playable characters seem to be the Champions, a group of the most powerful fighters and leaders around Hyrule, from before Calamity Ganon was sealed by Princess Zelda.

The Champions, which Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, has made into playable characters, consist of six different people. The two most familiar faces are the silent protagonist Link and the powerful princess Zelda. The other four aren't slouches either though, as they play a significant role in Breath of the Wild, especially in relation to the Divine Beasts that help take down Calamity Ganon. Daruk of the Gorons, Mipha of the Zoras, Revali of the Ritos, and Urbosa of the Gerudos might have only been able to help Link out as spirits in Breath of the Wild, but the trailer makes it clear that they will be key figures this time around, easily taking out waves of enemies all on their own.

How Breath of the Wild's Champions Play In Hyrule Warriors

The characters in the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity trailer do more than simply kick Bokoblin butt though, as they're also shown as having very distinct and powerful fighting abilities. Link can throw his trademark bombs and Zelda can use her Sheikah Slate to stop enemies in their tracks. Reminding fans that this is a prequel, the other four champions use many of their abilities that were talked about in Breath of the Wild. Daruk can smash the earth and raise up exploding pillars of stone, Mipha can create a pillar of water that launches her into the air so that she can dive-attack enemies, Revali can shoot five arrows at once in mid-air, and Urbosa can dodge enemy attacks to slow down time and punish them with her lightning covered saber.

Fans might have been disappointed to hear that more Breath of the Wild 2 news is a while away, but Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is the perfect game to play in the meantime. Not only will it give more context to what happened in Breath of the Wild, but it might even give impatient fans some clues as to what the second installment will be about. That's not even mentioning the action-packed gameplay it's sure to bring, nor the amazing characters that are sure to get some much needed development. Perhaps the most exciting reason to play this game though, is to see what the lands and people of Hyrule were like 100 years before Calamity Ganon.
