Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is known for its creepy atmosphere and unsettling characters, but one most notable of which is the character of Skull Kid who has now been masterfully recreated in LEGO by a fan. For those unfamiliar, Skull Kid is the tragic villain of Majora's Mask, who becomes possessed and motivated to destroy the world after obtain, well, Majora's Mask.

While most Zelda games focus on the hero’s journey, with the character of Link going on an adventure through various dungeons and boss fights in order to save Hyrule and Princess Zelda from Ganon, Majora’s Mask takes a different path. The game feels more like a fever dream, while it takes place as both a sequel and a possible timeline split followup to the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, it explores more complex ideas and dark tones surrounding death and acceptance than the series ever has. While dungeons, puzzles, and boss fights are still in the game, Link has to time travel constantly in order to prevent the moon from crash landing into the world. This story has nothing to do with the Triforce or Ganon. Instead, Skull Kid is the main antagonist.

In a post on the LEGO subreddit, a very talented Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask fan has shown off their newest build, a shockingly well-done recreation of Skull Kid. This LEGO artist has posted many of their unique builds on the subreddit, but this one is easily one the most impressive. The creator makes most of these LEGO creations from scratch, posting build guides online for others to follow if they wish. Many of the creations are from pop culture and gaming sources, showing up LEGO in terms of giving fans what they want.

The build took the creator around a month to complete, which is understandable as they are creating this from scratch. There are no official Legend of Zelda LEGO sets, so the creator had to source every piece from other sets and put them together to create this Skull Kid. The mask itself looks like it would have been particularly difficult to make, with many layers needed to pull off the details of the mask – and being able to do so without it becoming too thick is very impressive. The black elastic bands are especially clever, substituting where LEGO would have stickers if this were an official build.

The creator has posted a link to their email address on the Reddit post for build instructions that can be followed if anyone wishes to try recreating this LEGO build, granted that they have the required pieces. Fans can email the creator to receive the instructions. Maybe LEGO will start to see these fan builds and work towards making some bigger crossovers with other franchises.
