A talented Minecraft player recently impressed the internet with an incredible recreation of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Hyrule before the apocalyptic Calamity that wiped out most of civilization. The pre-disaster world is robust and dense, with the creator using Minecraft's sprawling and emergent crafting system to replicate many of BOTW's locations and even some of the game's mechanics.

The most recent official Legend of Zelda entry, Breath of the Wild broke new ground in open-world gaming with its massive, secret-filled vision of the iconic kingdom of Hyrule. The game takes place one hundred years after a catastrophic event known as The Calamity, brought about by the enduring series villain Ganon. Because of this semi-apocalypse, the world of Hyrule in BOTW features more empty stretches of land, bodies of water, and mountain ranges than the usual villages, towns, and castles that the series is known for. Players are treated to glimpses of pre-Calamity Hyrule through flashbacks and the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity spin-off game, but exploring an open-world version of this civilization has never been possible.

Breath of the Wild fans can now get a better look at what Hyrule might have been like prior to the disastrous reign of Ganon thanks to a Reddit user going by the name lordstringcheese. In a post featuring fifteen different screenshots, lordstringcheese shows off an incredible custom recreation of a thriving Hyrule. Several of BOTW's locations, including Rito Village and Hyrule castle, have been built from the ground up by lordstringcheese. A bustling central city has also been constructed, which looks to take some inspiration from Ocarina of Time's Castle Town. The world, along with some modded-in cooking and side-quest mechanics, will be available to download soon according to lordstringcheese.

From the Divine Beast structures to the mysterious Sheikah communityBreath of the Wild's pre-game history is filled with intriguing and charming details for players to pick apart. While fans of the seminal title might not have the chance to directly explore the rich world of Hyrule before Ganon began his reign, this painstakingly constructed Minecraft world can serve as a fun way to imagine what the kingdom might have been like in its prime. Any fan of BOTW should be on the lookout for the upcoming download of this custom world.

While Nintendo has not yet revealed any plans to create an open-world version of pre-Calamity Hyrule, the possibility is definitely tantalizing. BOTW's Hyrule certainly seems to have a deep and thought-out past that could be fun for players to explore. With so little known about the sequel to Breath of the Wild, it's possible that the chance to explore a bustling vision of Hyrule outside of this Minecraft build could be on the horizon.
