It has been a year and a half since Nintendo has shared any news about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. The recent release of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity gave fans a whole new perspective of the series by making some of the most memorable supporting characters from BOTW playable. The prequel also expanded the already impressive cast of voice actors that were featured in the 2017 open-world game, which set a precedent for the performances that should be included in BOTW 2.

While franchise protagonist Link will almost certainly remain silent, aside form his occasional battle cries, there's one character who needs a voice actor in the sequel. Age of Calamity gave voices to many minor and background characters who lacked them in BOTW. Even civilians and soldiers on the battlefield would belt out a few words when players walked past them or encountered them during a raid in Age of Calamity.

There's one character that has been confirmed to play a major role in BOTW 2, and now that Nintendo has committed to giving a majority of The Legend of Zelda cast voices, he desperately needs one. The company even went as far as giving less significant characters - like Master Kohga - voices, which means that Ganondorf will likely get a voice actor if he plays as big of a role in Breath of the Wild 2 as Nintendo has led fans to believe.

Breath of the Wild 2: Who Should Voice Ganondorf?

The E3 2019 trailer that teased BOTW 2 for the first time revealed that Ganondorf's mummified corpse is locked away beneath Hyrule Castle and is being revived. Ganon has taken many forms across the Zelda franchise and it's not entirely clear which embodiment will be featured in Breath of the Wild 2. Regardless of whether or not Ganondorf returns in humanoid form or if he'll remain a swirling blob of malice (that purple and black goo that litters Hyrule in BOTW) he needs to have a fiendish voice that will send a shiver down players' spines.

Takashi Nagasako is Ganondorf's most recent voice actor, being cast to play him in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Nagasako only grunts and laughs for this role, but his tone of voice strikes a balance between an arrogant king and demonic sorcerer, which perfectly fits the Gerudo warlock. Patrick Seitz, who voiced King Cerberus in Devil May Cry 5 and a number of deep-voiced Fire Emblem characters, would be another performer who could make Ganondorf come to life.

While Ganon's spectral appearance in Breath of the Wild didn't lend itself to a voice actor, the antagonist had many lines in Zelda games like Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. Both of those releases exclusively used subtitles for character dialogue, but now BOTW and Age of Calamity have set a new standard for the kind of vocal performances players expect out of The Legend of Zelda titles. It's only fair that the series' most iconic villain gets the same treatment the rest of the cast did on the Nintendo Switch when Breath of the Wild 2 releases.
