A newly discovered glitch in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild enables players to start the game with the Master Sword, but it will take a lot of time, work, and dedication to realize. Ever since its release, Breath of the Wild has been a gaming staple on the Nintendo Switch. Its massive open world map and non-linear gameplay has made it a fan favorite, with players still discovering new and exciting ways to explore the Kingdom of Hyrule today. Its success has inspired an abundance of other recent game releases, including Greek fantasy Immortals Fenyx Rising.

There have been two sought after hacks for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. First, the ability to start off the game with the paraglider, meaning that the Great Plateau segment of the game could be skipped, opening the sprawling map up to gamers as soon as they leave the Shrine of Resurrection. Second, a way to start the game with more powerful and durable weaponry; Notably the Master Sword and the Bow of Light.

Now, almost four years after The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was first released, a new glitch has been discovered that makes both hacks a reality. YouTuber LegendofLinkk is the brains behind this latest find, with the glitch entitled “Memory Storage”. Their discovery has been broken down by Gaming Reinvented in a step-by-step guide to allow other Zelda fans to utilize this glitch, although it is not for the fainthearted. To start off Breath of the Wild with all items, gamers must first trick the game into moving saved data across files.

While this may sound easy enough, it in fact involves a very convoluted and time-consuming process. Firstly, players of Breath of the Wild who wish to initiate this glitch must first posses the Travel Medallion, the upgraded Sheikah sensor, one Hyrule Compendium entry, one memory and a side quest to mark on the map. Only once all of there are acquired, the glitch can be set up as detailed in the video above. Once the set up has been completed, players must then deliberately kill Link, and restart a new game. If the glitch set up has been successful at this point, there will be no way to save in this new game. As such, gamers must complete a no death run of Breath of the Wild (without quitting) while collecting all the items they wish to take across into their future save file. No small task! Once fans have collected all the items they wish to start their next playthrough of Breath of the Wild with, they can load their old save file. It is not explained how or why, but at this point, the player will be reloaded back at the Shrine of Resurrection at the very start of the game with a full inventory.

This glitch will open a new world for Zelda Speedrunners. The ability to leave the Great Plateau without the shrines, cutscenes or runes will cut a significant chunk of time off Breath of the Wild gameplay. This combined with an already stocked weapon and bow store will make heading straight to Hyrule Castle to defeat Ganon a breeze for seasoned players.
