A recently-released mod for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild allows players to freely move the game's camera independent of Link. The most recent installment in Nintendo's long-running series, Breath of the Wild features a non-linear open-world that allows players to explore and complete objectives without restriction. Upon release in 2017, the game was met with widespread critical acclaim, winning numerous awards with particular praise aimed at the open-world design.

Even four years after release, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild continues to receive attention from fans. One modder was recently able to recreate Breath of the Wild's debug room, which are typically used by developers while they construct the game, by studying the game's code. The debug room contains a variety of the game's weapons, enemies, and items, as well as a boss fight against a literal bug. Another fan of the game has recently upscaled an early gameplay presentation of the game to a breathtaking 4K resolution and 60fps frame-rate. The gorgeous demonstration has prompted gamers to demand a premium relaunch of the Nintendo Switch in order to run Breath of the Wild at this high level.

Modder and Redditor u/EtraStyle recently completed a freecam mod for Breath of the Wild which allows players to see Hyrule from brand new angles. The mod reportedly took one year to develop, but the result is truly extraordinary. A video demonstration shows the camera flying high above Rito Village, giving an excellent view of the location and opening up many opportunities for screenshots. However, it has not been addressed how far the camera can stray from Link before the scenery begins to appear in low-quality since the world loads in around him to preserve console memory.

After the huge success of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, gamers are naturally anticipating the next Zelda title which may follow in its open-world footsteps. Unfortunately, no such game has yet been announced, but a new Zelda installment was released late last year in the form of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The title, which recently surpassed 3.5 million sales worldwide, is a hack-and-slash action game that acts as a prequel to Breath of the Wild as well as serving as a crossover with the Dynasty Warriors franchise. An expansion pass for the game, which was revealed last month, will add a host of post-launch content to the game such as new enemies, an expanded roster, and additional challenges. However, fans are still anxiously awaiting any news of Breath of the Wild's sequel.

Even four years after release, the influence of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is clear to see. The game's open-world game structure, which focuses on exploration and discovery over linear progression, harkens back to the very first Legend of Zelda title that released in 1986. u/EtraStyle's free camera mod not only demonstrates the fanbase's dedication to Breath of the Wild but also allows players can explore Breath of the Wild's massive map in brand new ways.
