The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has over a dozen different minigames, and while each promises an enticing prize, some minigames are much more rewarding than others. Most minigames are replayable and offer a variety of rewards depending on how well players perform, such as Rupees, gear, and other unique items that can aid Link on his adventures. Whenever players need a break from their quest to take on Calamity Ganon and rescue Hyrule from its evil, these entertaining diversions are a great way to make some extra money.

Minigames have been a fun distraction from the action since the earliest days of the Zelda series, and almost every game in the franchise gives players the chance to put adventuring aside and earn special items or crucial upgrades. Even Breath of the Wild’s shield surfing mechanic drew its inspiration from Twilight Princess’ Snowboard Race minigame, which players could beat to earn a Piece of Heart. Zelda often incorporates minigames directly into the game progression as well, requiring players to beat them at least once to progress through certain parts of the story or unlock new areas to explore.

There are plenty of ways to make money in Breath of the Wild, but minigames are arguably one of the most fun, turning some of the game’s best mechanics into exciting challenges that put Link’s skills to the test. There are plenty of minigames that offer a Gold Rupee worth 300 Rupees for achieving top scores, and while some are easier to beat than others, players are bound to find one that they can enjoy coming back to any time they’re in need of a few extra Rupees. Of all the minigames in Breath of the Wild, these offer the best rewards by far.

The Super Gut Check Challenge Has BOTW’s Biggest Minigame Payout

Players can earn as many Rupees as they can grab in BOTW's Super Gut Check Challenge.

The Super Gut Check Challenge is a major test of Link’s climbing skills in Breath of the Wild, and it also has the biggest potential for profit of any minigame. At the top of Gut Check Rock, which is located in the hot springs of the northern Eldin region, players can speak with the Goron to take the Super Gut Check Challenge once they clear the original Gut Check Challenge required to unlock the Gorae Torr Shrine. To beat the minigame, Breath of the Wild players must climb to the top of Gut Check Rock within the time limit and grab at least 300 Rupees along the way. It costs 100 Rupees to play, but if Link wins, he gets to keep every single Rupee he manages to pick up. The challenge can be tough, but with an upgraded stamina wheel, the upgraded Climbing Set, or plenty of stamina foods and elixirs, players can easily see a massive payout by beating this short minigame.

Mimo’s Ring Course Offers A Gold Rupee In BOTW

Link can earn a Gold Rupee from Mimo's Paraglider Course minigame in Breath of the Wild.

After completing the Stranded on Eventide Island Shrine Quest, Breath of the Wild players can speak with a Rito named Mimo to test their paragliding skills in the Mimo’s Ring Course minigame. Players must use Breath of the Wild’s paraglider to skillfully fly through as many of the floating rings as possible without hitting the ground, requiring an upgraded stamina wheel to earn higher scores. This gliding course is definitely one of the more difficult minigames in Breath of the Wild, but if players have masterful control over their paraglider and manage to clear over 50 rings, they’ll earn themselves a Gold Rupee for their efforts.

Horse Riding Minigames Unlock Horse Gear In BOTW

Players can earn the Knight's Set for their Horse in Breath of the Wild's Mounted Archery Course minigame

Breath of the Wild allows players to find and tame a variety of cool mounts, and players looking for an extra equestrian challenge can play the Mounted Archery Course and Mounted Obstacle Course minigames to earn gear for their horses. The Mounted Archery Course can be found at the Mounted Archery Camp west of the Highland Stable, and BOTW players who use their archery skills to shoot 20 targets in less than 1 minute can earn the Knight’s Bridle and Knight’s Saddle. After earning these unique prizes, however, players can return and beat the course again to earn some free Bomb Arrows, but each entry costs 20 Rupees.

Players can try the Mounted Obstacle Course by speaking with Blynne while on horseback at the Highland Stable. Players can earn the Extravagant Bridle and Extravagant Saddle by beating the obstacle course in less than 1:15 minutes, but they’ll have to be able to control their horse extremely well to make it through without missing any of the obstacles. Once Link has claimed both of these unique pieces of gear, the obstacle course can be replayed to earn a Silver Rupee any time players are up for a horse riding challenge.

BOTW’s Flight Range Minigame Is Fun And Rewarding

Link can earn a Gold Rupee with his archery skills in Breath of the Wild's Flight Range minigame.

After defeating Divine Beast Vah Medoh in Breath of the Wild, players can return to the Flight Range to practice their airborne archery in the Flight Range minigame. Teba wants Link to show his son, Tulin, how to handle a bow, and Tulin will set up a course with 20 targets for Link to shoot. This minigame is not only fun to play, allowing players to enter bullet time as they pull off some sweet trick shots with their bow, but breaking all 20 targets before the time limit is up will net players a valuable Gold Rupee. Unlike most minigames in the Zelda series, the Flight Range minigame doesn’t have an entry fee, but players will have to bring their own arrows in order to play.

Selmie’s Shield Surfing Minigame Offers Durable Shields In BOTW

Breath of the Wild's Shield Surging minigame will reward players with durable shields.

Selmie is one of Breath of the Wild’s shield surfing enthusiasts, and players can visit her cabin in the Hebra Mountains to play her shield surfing minigame. After clearing the beginner course, players can test their skills on the advanced course to earn one of Selmie’s shields as a prize. Players can earn better shields depending on how fast they beat the course, with the grand prize being a Royal Shield for a time less than 1:35 minutes. Selmie’s shields are some of the most durable shields players can get in Breath of the Wild, making them as good for shield surfing as they are for battling monsters.

Snowling Offers A Gold Rupee Per Strike In BOTW

Link can play the Snowling minigame at Pondo's Lodge in BOTW for a Gold Rupee.

Along with some of the most relaxing of Breath of the Wild’s minimalist music, Pondo’s Lodge features the Snowball Bowling minigame for some classic bowling action. Pondo’s Lodge is located just below the Hebra Tower, and players can try their hand at this fun minigame for 20 Rupees. Hitting a strike will reward Link with a Gold Rupee, but if players have an empty slot in their weapon inventory, they can receive a Blizzard Rod instead, which lets them shoot magical ice orbs at enemies. A spare can earn players a Silver Rupee, but The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Snowball Bowling - or “Snowling,” as Pondo calls it - can be tougher than it seems.
