The latest trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 features a very specific and interesting reference to the first game that could also hint at some of the themes of the sequel. Not much is known regarding Breath of the Wild 2, but it seems like the game is going to really up the scale of its predecessor when it releases in 2022, five years after the first game.

After two years of silence since its reveal, Nintendo debuted a new trailer for BOTW 2 and it looks remarkable. It's hard to get an idea of what's actually going to happen in the game, but the trailer has caused numerous theories. Although it clearly builds off of the first Breath of the Wild, the game will have plenty of all-new features such as an ability to fall from extreme heights, akin to Skyward Sword. That said, one of the other potential new elements requires a closer examination of the trailer.

Twitter user aitakimochi noted that if the Breath of the Wild 2 trailer is played in reverse, the music seems to be the original theme from the first game and may even have hints of Skyward Sword in it as well. The BOTW 2 trailer generated a lot of hype already, but many are speculating that the game has some sort of time travel element or at the very least, the ability to manipulate time in some way. Not only is there backward music, but Link can be seen reversing the entropy of an object as if he's the protagonist in Tenet.

It remains to be seen how pivotal to the game this musical hint will end up being, as it could simply be fans overthinking. But it seems unlikely that the music has no significance at all, especially considering the franchise's history with subtle musical hints. Still, there's not much else known about Breath of the Wild 2 and there likely won't be any concrete details until much later in the year, should the game release around March like the last entry.

Regardless, there are still plenty of interesting new features in BOTW 2 that will seemingly make an appearance besides time manipulation. If it's anything like the original game, it will likely be a very rich gameplay experience, and with the developers saying that they've taken inspiration from Red Dead Redemption 2, it could be a very immersive and gripping game. Of course, all fans can do right now is speculate until Nintendo is ready to divulge more about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.
