The dawn of the final day before Nintendo’s E3 Direct, fans are preparing for the possibility of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 to show up at the conference. It’s been two years since the game was announced during E3 2019, and fans are hoping that this’ll be the year when more information on the game is revealed at last.

It’s arguable that fan judgement of Nintendo’s E3 this year is heavily based on whether or not Breath of the Wild 2 will be included in the showcase on June 15th. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild became one of the most critically acclaimed games in the series, and the announcement of a sequel put very high expectations on what it will entail. The 2019 teaser trailer for BOTW 2 alone was enough to provide fuel for all sorts of theories of what was happening.

The day before Nintendo’s E3 presentation, “BOTW 2” is trending on Twitter, with several fans hoping that June 15th will be the day when their prayers for news will be answered. Fans are doing this in several different ways, with user sleepykokiri creating a summoning circle in the hopes for the big day. Meanwhile, user molegom is preparing for the inevitable disappointment when there’s no news on Zelda or the anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong, the latter of which has been confirmed to not appear at this year’s E3.

Another reason the stakes have been raised for Breath of the Wild 2’s appearance is due to the events of the Nintendo Direct in February 2021. In it, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma appeared to announce that Breath of the Wild 2 wasn’t going to be shown in the direct, and that more info would be released in the future. In its place, The Legend of Zelda: Shyward Sword HD was announced for a July 16th release date. 2020 also didn’t see any news of Breath of the Wild 2, instead having the release of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

Now, two years later since the original announcement, it seems like enough time has passed that the time is ripe for more information to be released on the next big Zelda installment. Will fan’s prayers be answered with more information on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, or will there again be an announcement that the game is still being worked on? Fans will soon find out during Nintendo’s E3 2021 presentation on June 15th.
