Zack Snyder may not be directing another DC Comics movie anytime soon, but he's still producing Aquaman and Wonder Woman 2, among other upcoming DC films. Warner Bros. finally launched their DC Comics-based universe (unofficially titled the DC Extended Universe) with Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 - a follow-up to his 2013 Superman movie, Man of Steel - and they continued expanding the franchise with David Ayer's Suicide Squad and Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman, as well as Snyder's 2017 film, Justice League.
Ever since Snyder revealed plans to develop Batman V Superman at San Diego Comic-Con 2013 and Warner Bros. officially announced their DC film universe in 2014, the goal has always been to get to Justice League - and Snyder was always the conductor of that train. Unfortunately, the filmmaker's vision fell by the wayside upon Batman V Superman's release, and Justice League ended up being far from what fans expected, primarily due to studio interference and costly reshoots that altered the fundamental scope of the film. When Snyder stepped away from Justice League earlier this year to deal with a personal tragedy, DCEU fans wondered if he'd ever return to the franchise. Well, we finally have an answer to that mystery.
Variety reports that Warner Bros. doesn't currently have any plans for Zack Snyder to direct another DC Comics movie, but the outlet does note that the filmmaker is staying on as producer and executive producer - depending on the movie - namely for James Wan's Aquaman and Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 2, among other films. However, it's unclear how long Snyder will remain on as producer and if he will have a role in developing the story for Justice League 2, should the sequel move forward.
Snyder notably co-wrote the story for Jenkins' record-breaking 2017 film, Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot as the eponymous superhero, while also laying the groundwork for Wan's Aquaman by introducing the character - along with Ezra Miller's The Flash and Ray Fisher's Cyborg - in Justice League. But the filmmaker isn't involved in writing the story for Wonder Woman 2, which is currently being penned by Jenkins and DC Films head honcho Geoff Johns. However, Snyder is still producing that movie as well as executive producing Wan's Aquaman - the next DCEU movie on the docket to hit theaters.
Of course, what DCEU fans want to know is if Snyder will return to direct Justice League 2. After all, the director was originally attached to both Justice League: Part 1 and Justice League: Part 2 before the studio altered the shared universe's schedule in 2016. Considering that Snyder directed Justice League's post-credits scene and, therefore, is responsible for setting up a potential sequel, it would make sense for him to continue producing all the League-related movies until at least that movie releases, thereby concluding his DCEU era.
