Update: Since publication, the social media embargo has also lifted for critics, and they mostly agree with previous fan reactions.

Early reactions to Zack Snyder's Justice League have arrived. Snyder's version of the DC superhero team-up film has had a long, hard road to its release in just a few days. The director was given the keys to DC's cinematic future when he rebooted Superman in 2013's Man Of Steel. That film and its sequel, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, were critically divisive and didn't live up to Warner Bros.' expectations at the box office.

Snyder would eventually part ways with the studio during production of Justice League amid creative clashes and a family tragedy. Avengers director Joss Whedon was brought in to rewrite and reshoot much of the film, creating a much different movie than what Snyder had intended. That version of the film, released in 2017, was a box office and critical dud, arguably the DC Extended Universe's biggest failure. Spurred on by a massive fan campaign on social media, HBO Max decided to allow Snyder to finish his version of the film, which is a four-hour epic that promises a decidedly different take on the DC superheroes.

With the social media embargo lifted, fans' and critics' reactions to the film are starting to pour in. Check them out below.

Since the social embargo lifted, critics are now able to share their reactions as well.

Early reactions suggest HBO Now may have a hit on their hands. Many note that the film is lighter in tone than Snyder's other DC films, and that Cyborg - who was largely cut out of the theatrical version - is the heart of the film's story. Many also note that Junkie XL's new score is superior to Danny Elfman's mishmash of different eras in the theatrical cut. Fans have noted the surprisingly emotional resonance of the film, and how the characters organically interact with each other.

Zack Snyder's Justice League does not figure to be a universal critical smash - Snyder is by his very nature a divisive filmmaker. However, the fact that fans and professional critics seem to be on the same page is a good sign. That said, the early indicators are promising, with the movie seemingly solving a lot of the problems some fans had with Snyder's earlier interpretations of the DC Universe. The DC Extended Universe is likely going to move on from this version of its heroes soon, but if this is the last hurrah for Zack Snyder's vision of the DC Universe, early indications are he's going out with a bang.
