Filmmaker Zack Snyder is sending his best wishes to the Justice League team on the eve of their appearance at San Diego Comic-Con. It's been a heartbreaking year for Snyder, who suddenly stepped away from his directorial duties on Justice League in May after revealing the tragic loss of his daughter just two months before. Saying it was imperative to step away from the film to be with his family and kids, Snyder handed over the director's duties for the remainder of the project to new DCEU helmer Joss Whedon - who announced in March that he was writing and directing Batgirl for Warner Bros.

Snyder has kept a relatively low profile since he stepped away from Justice League, although he's occasionally taken to social media to do things like express his pride over the success of Wonder Woman; and most recently, pay tribute to the late auteur George A. Romero, the Dawn of the Dead director who inspired Snyder's remake of the film.

On Friday, Snyder emerged on Twitter again, this time to wish luck to his fellow Justice League collaborators who are set to appear at the film's panel at Hall H during the Warner Bros. film presentation Saturday. See the tweet below:

Excited for the JL team as they descend upon the awesome fans packed into #HallH tomorrow. Sending my best! #UniteTheLeague #SDCC2017— Zack Snyder (@ZackSnyder) July 22, 2017

Earlier this month, Warner Bros. announced that Justice League stars Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ezra Miller (The Flash) and Ray Fisher (Cyborg) would appear on the panel to promote Justice League, as well as the 2018 DCEU entry Aquaman. Noticeably absent from the panel roster is Whedon's name, who previously confirmed he would not be attending SDCC (likely in a gesture of respect to Snyder).

While its wonderful to see Snyder extend his best wishes to the Justice League, it's a bittersweet feeling at the same time. Snyder is no doubt proud of the foundation he laid for the DCEU with Man of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, yet any amount of joy he attained from working on the films was no doubt erased by the tragic personal loss he and his family suffered earlier this year. After all, no amount of success in the world outweighs the importance of family.

Fans will no doubt miss Snyder's smiling face and the boundless enthusiasm he brought to prior SDCC panels when the Justice League team takes stage this Saturday, and he'll no doubt be on the minds of Affleck, Gadot, Cavill and company, too. With any luck, the cast will give their former captain a shout-out because, ultimately, it was his vision that got the DCEU to the point where it is today.
