Zack Snyder took to social media to strategically troll fans with a Final Crisis tease. Snyder most recently released his cut of Justice League on HBO Max, Zack Snyder's Justice League, which is a four-hour version of his original vision for the film. Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher, Zack Snyder's Justice League is a vastly different cut of the theatrical version, which was reshot and reworked by Joss Whedon in 2017.

Final Crisis is a 2008 crossover event from DC Comics, written by Grant Morrison and primarily illustrated by J.G. Jones, which focuses on Darkseid's plot to invade and take over Earth and features a number of varying DC universe factors, including the Anti-Life Equation, New Gods, Apokolips, and New Genesis, and Monitors. Batman and Superman feature heavily in the event series, with Batman helping to weaken Darkseid with a Radion Bullet before Darkseid kills him. Superman eventually defeats Darkseid with a song, which countered the vibrational frequency of Darkseid, killing him. The Man of Steel then reset Earth to its rightful place in the multiverse.

While Snyder has teased his outline for what a Justice League 2 & 3 would've looked like already, the director did some playful trolling on Vero (via Prime), showing his Thanksgiving turkey with a strategically placed copy of Final Crisis in the background. In his original post, Snyder has only the words "thankful" posted alongside the short video. Speculation has since run rampant, with fans wondering if this is just a playful troll, a tease of something to come, or a hint at something Snyder would like to adapt. Check out the video below:

Snyder has been vocal about WB wanting nothing to do with his DC vision anymore but has also stated that he's forever a fan of the brand. With his DC days seemingly behind him at the moment, Snyder is instead investing his time in Netflix, who are allowing him to continue his Army of the Dead franchise with a sequel (titled Planet of the Dead), and a new sci-fi film he's about to begin filming titled Rebel Moon and starring Sofia Boutella. Snyder is also producing an animated Army of the Dead prequel series, titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, which is being directed by Jay Oliva.

Snyder has played the social media tease game well in the last few years, teasing bits and pieces of his Justice League cut and keeping the conversation alive, eventually leading to a deal for him to finally release it on HBO Max. Fan support, particularly on social media, has been a major component of Snyder's success, and he's taken note. Placing a Final Crisis collection in view of what is seemingly just an innocent Thanksgiving post is a very Snyder move. While Snyder may not complete his initial take on Justice League 2 & 3, Final Crisis would provide an even better opportunity to pivot from Zack Snyder's Justice League and continue the story, as so many elements from the comic weave easily into the narrative that's already begun. Time will tell if Snyder feels strongly enough about Final Crisis one way or another, but it's an intriguing thought to think of what his vision of that storyline would look like, even if he's just teasing.
