Following a cryptic video from an excited Jason Momoa, Zack Snyder fans are once again speculating about his potential DC Universe return. Snyder is best known for helping launch Warner Bros.' interconnected comic book franchise with Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and producing Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad. Snyder would depart the DCU during production of Justice League over creative differences and his daughter's suicide, but fans of the director have remained vocal in their hopes to see him return at some point in the future to close out his Justice League trilogy. On the heels of James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over DC Studios, Jason Momoa took to his Instagram story to post a cryptic video in which he teases learning of "some of the most exciting news of my life", and blowing a kiss to "maestro." Zack Snyder fans quickly took to social media to circulate the video, speculating that the Aquaman star ws hinting at the director's DCU return, though also believing it to refer to his inclusion in The Flash or for Ben Affleck's bigger return as Batman in the future. Would James Gunn Bring Back Snyder?

Momoa has grown increasingly excited about the future of the DCU since Gunn took over as co-studio head at the start of the month, having recently teased that his dreams for the franchise are coming true under the new studio management. Given his very vague statements in his cryptic video, it's difficult to actually determine who or what he may be referencing for the news the Aquaman actor has learned. Some have further speculated that Momoa could be in talks to simultaneously play Lobo for the DCU following Gunn sharing a picture of the antihero while launching a new account on the social media platform Mastodon.

Regardless of if it's what Momoa is referring to, the question largely remains whether Gunn would bring back Snyder to the DCU fold sometime in the future. The Peacemaker creator has assured he and Safran are listening to what fans want from the franchise, looking into various DC fan campaigns, though has also noted they are focused on developing the DCU's larger story plan, thus downplaying the possibility of Suicide Squad's Ayer Cut seeing the light of day, or saving Legends of Tomorrow from cancelation in the near future. Given how voracious the movement to "Restore the SnyderVerse" has been since the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, it does seem impossible for Gunn to completely overlook the potential to bring Snyder back at some point in the future, should it fit his, Safran and David Zaslav's plans.

However, there will be a lot of negotiating on their parts to bring Zack Snyder back to the DCU should they feel it right for him to return. Even when putting together his alternate cut of the film, Snyder was vocal about further creative control issues putting together Zack Snyder's Justice League, while also having praised the creative freedom he's seen at Netflix putting together his Army of the Dead franchise, of which he's developing the sequel for the eponymous film, and Rebel Moon, which is expected to launch an epic space franchise, thus keeping his dance card pretty full for any superhero property. Even if Snyder doesn't ultimately make a DCU return, it seems Gunn and Safran are already making Momoa's dreams come true, with Henry Cavill's recent Superman return also leaving many excited about the future of the franchise.
