Fusion Summons are one of the oldest types of Special Summons in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel players can use Fusion Summoning to summon some incredibly powerful monsters to their side of the field. Fusion Summoning was featured heavily in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series, particularly in the original series and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX before new types of summoning were added later on, and fans of the anime are likely familiar with this type of Special Summoning already. In order to summon a Fusion Monster, players combine two or more monsters to summon their fused form, which tends to be a much more powerful monster with high attack power and special effects that can give players a competitive advantage.

Fusion Monsters are special types of Monster cards that are kept in the Extra Deck, allowing Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel players to summon them straight to the field once their summoning requirements are met. Each Fusion Monster lists the Monster cards required to summon it in its card effect, which are called Fusion Materials, and players typically have to play a special Fusion Spell card in order to fuse the Materials together. Once the Materials have been fused, players send them to their graveyard unless there’s a card effect activated that states otherwise. Fusion Materials can be played from the player’s hand and field, which gives Fusion Summoning an advantage over other types of Special Summoning that require all of the summoning materials to be on the field first. Sometimes, the Fusion Materials are specific Monster cards, but other Fusion Monsters only require Monsters of a certain type or attribute, making Fusion Summoning a fairly flexible type of Special Summoning in Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel.

When players successfully Fusion Summon a Monster in the latest Yu-Gi-Oh! video game, they can play it in the Extra Monster Zone in face-up attack or defense position. However, if players have a Link Monster in their Extra Monster Zone, Fusion Monsters can also be played in the zones that are linked to that Monster, which are indicated by the arrows on the Link Monster card. Like other Extra Deck Monsters, Fusion Monsters can’t be Special Summoned from the graveyard or from banishment unless they are successfully Fusion Summoned first unless an active card effect states otherwise.

How To Build A Fusion Summoning Deck In Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel

Shaddolls can be played as a Fusion archetype deck in Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel.

When building a deck with Fusion Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, players must include special summoning cards whose effects allow them to perform Fusion Summons. These special cards tend to be Spell Cards, allowing players to activate their effects instantly. Polymerization is one of the most common Fusion Summoning cards, as well as one of the oldest, and it simply allows Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel players to combine two Monsters and send them to the graveyard to summon a Fusion Monster. However, there are also certain Fusion Monsters that can be summoned without the use of a summoning spell and only require the Fusion Materials to summon, so players will have to read the effects of their Fusion Monsters carefully when building their deck.

Since Fusion Summoning requires combinations of specific cards to perform, it can be one of the trickier types of Special Summoning to pull off, though players can counteract this by building their deck around certain archetypes that make Fusion Summoning easier. Many Fusion archetypes feature their own unique summoning cards whose effects can be used to perform special combos, such as the Shaddoll and HERO archetypes. Including enough summoning cards and Fusion Materials is the key to building a Fusion deck in Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, and with the right balance of cards, players can easily create a deck that allows them to bring a ton of powerful Fusion Monsters to their side of the field.
