If using the app, open the app and tap on the profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen. Then scroll down to the bottom and select 'Settings.' From here, go to 'General' and toggle on the 'Dark theme' option on the next page. The selection will be saved instantly and the app will turn dark if it wasn't already. The method is identical on Android and iOS, but some Android devices may require the user to select 'Appearance' from the 'General' options before then selecting 'Dark theme.'

To change the theme on the YouTube website, log in to the account and click on the profile picture in the top-right corner. Now select the 'Appearance: Device theme' option in the drop-down menu. To change the theme without signing in, click on the menu button and then hit the 'Appearance' option. By default, the menu option should say 'Appearance: Device theme,' but users will get the option to select 'Dark theme' on the next page. If the option already says 'Appearance: Dark theme,' that means the dark mode setting is already switched on and users won't need to do anything else to always watch YouTube in dark mode.

As with other apps, the dark mode option on YouTube is easy on the eyes and offers a soothing viewing experience, especially in the dark or when watching at night. It is not only better aesthetically, but also reduces screen glare making it better for the eyes. With dark mode allowing users to experience YouTube without straining their eyes , it is worth consider using the method(s) described above to enable the feature on mobile and desktop.
