The stars of Young Sheldon support the ongoing Writers Guild strike of 2023 amid news of season 7's premiere. CBS' family comedy just wrapped up its sixth season with a one-hour special that saw Sheldon leave for Germany and the rest of the Coopers devastated by a tornado. Considering the dramatic send-off, there's growing interest to see what's next for them, but it may be a while before Young Sheldon season 7 makes it on the air.
Young Sheldon stars Lance Barber, Raegan Revord, and Zoe Perry all joined the Writers Guild picketing, offering explicit support to their writing staff. Check out the image below from Young Sheldon writer, Connor Kilpatrick:
In the caption, Kilpatrick writes "No more Sheldon ‘til they shell out," referring to the writers' fight for equal and appropriate pay. The Writers Guild strike started in early May and has been going on for almost a month now. Depending on when it will end, it could delay Young Sheldon season 7 despite a planned 2023 premiere.
Will Young Sheldon Season 7 Premiere This Fall?
Prior to the Young Sheldon season 6 finale, producer Steve Holland candidly talked about how the Writers Guild strike will impact what comes next for the Cooper family. What makes this trickier is the possibility that Young Sheldon season 7 may be its last. Aside from being delayed, it could also see a shortened year, which means that several plot lines may need to be dropped.
As for CBS and Warner Bros., it seems like they are optimistic that work on Young Sheldon season 7 will begin in time for its fall 2023 premiere. But it will still vary on how the strike pans out throughout the summer. Even if scripts are already worked on for the first few episodes of the upcoming year, it will still be difficult to move forward with production without writers, not to mention having actors who are fully supporting them.
Regardless if Young Sheldon season 7 will really be its last, it will still be a pivotal year for the Coopers. It needs to tackle Sheldon's transition from Texas to California as he begins his post-graduate studies at Caltech. George's inevitable death will likely also fall in its timeline. Amid all this, CBS can use the year to rebrand the show to The Coopers and shift its storytelling focus to Georgie and Missy.
