Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Young Sheldon season 6, episode 11As proven by Young Sheldon season 6, episode 11, Missy is very perceptive—but this doesn’t necessarily make her character's story in The Big Bang Theory any easier. After six seasons of Young Sheldon, it is becoming increasingly clear that Missy got the short shrift out of all the Cooper children. Admittedly, Georgie does end up harboring a bitter resentment toward Sheldon for decades thanks to Mary’s preferential treatment of her youngest son. However, the two brothers bury their beef in The Big Bang Theory season 11 and Georgie’s success in business proves that this fight didn’t derail the rest of his adult life.

In contrast, Young Sheldon season 6 proves Missy was wasted in The Big Bang Theory as the character consistently proves to be sharper, more perceptive, and more insightful than she seemed in her older incantation. However, this did not help her later in life. If anything, the evidence seen in The Big Bang Theory appears to imply that Missy’s social smarts only alienated her from her family, as she was aware of their secrets, and they didn’t necessarily like this fact. This can be seen in Young Sheldon season 6, episode 11, “Ruthless, Toothless, and a Week of Bed Rest”,”

Missy Confronts George Sr On Young Sheldon

Raegan Revord as Missy in Young Sheldon and Courtney Henggeler as Missy in The Big Bang Theory

During a drive shared by Missy and George Sr, Sheldon’s sister revealed that she knew about both Brenda and George Sr’s secret chicken coop meet-ups and Pastor Rob and Mary’s weird flirting. However, unlike the skills Georgie carried into The Big Bang Theory, her ability to keep tabs on her family clearly doesn’t translate to stable adult life, as evidenced by her handful of appearances in the earlier series. Missy doesn’t appear in The Big Bang Theory often and is seldom referenced by Mary, which could be because Mary didn’t love the fact that Missy knew about her and Pastor Rob and mentioned it to George Sr.

This is a bleak interpretation, but it is one of the few explanations for Mary’s distance from Missy in The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon, who is more like his mother than he ever wants to admit, dismisses both Missy and Georgie as “mouth-breathing idiots” in The Big Bang Theory but he at least isn’t their parent. Mary is, and the fact that she rarely mentions Missy (and never talks positively of her) in The Big Bang Theory doesn’t look great. Young Sheldon could see George Sr fired because of his rivalry with Pastor Rob, so Missy confirming the spark between Pastor Rob and Mary might cause their marriage serious issues.

How This Makes Missy’s TBBT Story Sadder

Young Sheldon Missy and The Big Bang Theory Sheldon

While Missy might have been happy enough with her life in The Big Bang Theory, it seems to always be in chaos and disarray. This is a shame, given how sharp and perceptive she is in Young Sheldon. However, it does add up if viewers consider that Mary may have stopped supporting her daughter due to Missy informing George Sr about Mary’s relationship with Pastor Rob. This would leave missy with only the inconsistent Young Sheldon heroine Meemaw as a guide for her, which would further explain her erratic life path. Thus, Young Sheldon set up Missy’s mother effectively ignoring her existence in The Big Bang Theory.
