George (Lance Barber) attempts to romance Mary (Zoe Perry) but gets turned down in a new Young Sheldon season 5, episode 9 promo spot. Titled “The Yips and an Oddly Hypnotic Bohemian,” the outing will see Missy (Raegan Revord) and Sheldon (Iain Armitage) deal with their respective slumps. However, back at home, their dad is also struggling with his own marital issues.

The Big Bang Theory depicted the Cooper patriarch as a no-good father who was lazy and useless. Both adult Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and his mother, Mary (Laurie Metcalf), ragged on him every single time they got the chance, as if he never had any redeeming quality. Since the character was already dead when the original show started, George couldn't even defend himself. It wasn't until Young Sheldon premiered in 2017 that it was revealed he may not be all that bad. In fact, the Big Bang Theory prequel spin-off presents him as a decent, if not a good family man, who wants nothing but the best for his wife and kids. The problem is, it's imperative that the ongoing CBS sitcom tackles Sheldon's story about his father's affair. And while Young Sheldon has been dancing around the idea for years now, sooner or later, the show will have to address said incident.

In the meantime, however, it seems like George is still faithful to his wife during Young Sheldon — or at least he's trying to be. In a new Young Sheldon season 5 promo clip, George comes home and tries romancing Mary. However, the Cooper matriarch is not interested in what he's proposing. She ruthlessly turns him down, which understandably disappoints her husband. Watch the video below:

Based on the official synopsis from CBS, the new Young Sheldon outing will also see George supposedly start work at Brenda's house. This means that the pair will start spending more time with each other, which poses some new risks given their obvious attraction to each other. Ever since their night out at the pub in Young Sheldon season 4, the show has noticeably dialed back the focus on the budding couple. However, that doesn't mean that the pair hasn't continued their communications off-screen. Perhaps George and Brenda decided to remain friends given how great they get along. It will be interesting to see if George's romantic mood in the new Young Sheldon clip comes after spending some time with Brenda. Based on his casual clothes in the scene, it doesn't seem like he came home from his job at Medford High. So, chances are that wherever he's been was for leisure purposes.

At this point, it's difficult to say if George and Brenda will actually start a proper affair. Young Sheldon is obviously setting this up, but it's possible that the pair's friendship is staged to misdirect fans given what they already know about The Big Bang Theory's story. In any case, with The Big Bang Theory spin-off confirmed to run at least until season 7, CBS has plenty of time to work on George's unfortunate infidelity arc.
