Was George (Lance Barber) planning to cheat with Brenda (Melissa Peterman) in the Young Sheldon season 5 premiere? The CBS comedy returned with a brand new episode, providing answers regarding the much-discussed season 4 cliffhanger finale. While the outing confirmed that no, George and Brenda didn't start an affair, it's uncertain if the Cooper patriarch was going to take up her offer to go back to her place for a nightcap before he suffered a mini heart attack.

Titled "One Bad Night and Chaos of Selfish Desires," the Young Sheldon season 5 opener picked up right where season 4 left — with George and Brenda in the pub, having a great time. The pair started sharing life stories, and eventually, their interactions became more flirtatious in nature. At one point, Brenda suggested that they leave the bar and go elsewhere. If that wasn't clear enough, she furthered by saying that her kids were not at home since her estranged husband, Herschel (Billy Gardell) was spending time with them. George was clearly surprised by her neighbor's blatancy, but before he could respond, he suddenly experienced chest pains, forcing him to be rushed to the hospital where Mary (Zoe Perry) eventually reunited with George.

Since George wasn't able to give his answer to Brenda, it's curious what the Cooper patriarch's decision was going to be regarding her proposition. While Young Sheldon's season 5 premiere didn't give an explicit answer, the subsequent interactions between the pair, coupled with George's personal reactions are clear indications that he would've more likely agreed to go home with his neighbor. Granted that both of them may have felt guilty about their flirtations, George's guilt suggests that he was so close to cheating. He tried convincing himself that he did nothing wrong — to the point that he pretended to forget his whole conversation with Brenda. But he knew full well that his actions towards her were inappropriate, and if Young Sheldon's Mary found out about it, he would be in trouble. He was even willing to completely disregard the argument he had with his wife regarding his personal misery just so the subject of his time with Brenda doesn't come up anymore.

George Cooper Brenda affair

Another clear indication that George was going to join Brenda home is the growing attraction between the pair. Young Sheldon season 5 premiere was able to play it off for laughs when the pair reflected on their interactions at the bar days after it happened. At this point, George was already feeling so guilty for what he did, meaning that he knew full well that he did something wrong. Despite this, it was clear that he was still drawn to Brenda when they found themselves alone at her home. The pull towards her was so strong, he had to abruptly leave and go back home to stop himself from doing something incredibly foolish. If George was contemplating an affair with Brenda while sober and in the light of day, chances are that he would've been more open to doing the same thing after a few drinks in the middle of the night.

It's curious where George and Brenda's complicated dynamic goes moving forward in Young Sheldon. At this point, no one else knows about their dalliance except themselves. But it's not outside the realm of possibility that their secret gets out eventually. If that happens, it will undoubtedly cause irreparable damage to the Coopers' marriage.
