The official Young Sheldon season 5 finale will feature another change for George (Lance Barber) and Mary (Zoe Perry). CBS' The Big Bang Theory prequel sitcom is at the tail end of its current year. While there are still a few episodes left, there's already growing interest in how Young Sheldon season 5 will wrap up. The latest Young Sheldon episodes have delivered several bombshells, including the shocking reveal that Mandy (Emily Osment) and Georgie (Montana Jordan) have fallen pregnant.
Instead of simply focusing on Sheldon (Iain Armitage) and his adventures at East Texas Tech, CBS came up with more diverse storytelling for Young Sheldon season 5. Each member of the Cooper family has had their own arcs, including Mary and George. Individually, the couple has had their respective storylines, which both involve potential infidelity. While George started spending time with Brenda (Melissa Peterman), Mary develops a crush on Youth Pastor Rob (Dan Byrd). However, Young Sheldon has put those narratives on the backburner so the family can deal with Georgie and Mandy's current predicament. Towards the end of Young Sheldon season 5, though, it seems George and Mary are facing another blow to their relationship and family.
Per TV Line, the Young Sheldon season 5 finale will see the Cooper parents looking for "new jobs." The episode synopsis doesn't reveal any more details regarding this particular plot point. The Young Sheldon outing titled “A Clogged Pore, a Little Spanish and the Future” will also see Sheldon starting to deal with puberty, while Georgie and Meemaw (Annie Potts) go out of town. Recently, Young Sheldon season 5 has been focusing on Georgie's situation. After confessing the pregnancy to his parents, George and Mary are understandably sent into a frenzy. However, considering that they were once in the same situation after George accidentally got Mary pregnant, the Cooper parents are now more understanding than many initially assumed. Unfortunately, it seems that things are only about to get worse from here on out, since this Young Sheldon season 5 finale detail hints that both George and Mary may lose their jobs. What's more, co-creator Steve Molaro also previously confirmed that The Big Bang Theory spinoff will be revisiting George's cheating storyline.
Young Sheldon viewers already know that George has been on the brink of losing his job at Medford High School, as it's the reason why he is working part-time for Dale (Craig T. Nelson). However, there hasn't been any indication that Mary will also be fired. If Mary does lose her job, it will be interesting to see the cause of this, and whether Youth Pastor Rob is involved in any way. Regardless, this development isn't good for the Cooper parents. Their marriage has already been secretly deteriorating for some time now, and dealing with financial stress could exacerbate their issues. Assuming that this is the case, then this could be an indication that Young Sheldon is finally ready to tackle George's infidelity narrative, and perhaps his death.
