Warning! Spoilers ahead for Young Sheldon season 6, episode 12.

Young Sheldon season 6 features a storyline that effectively argues why the spin-off needs to fully ignore The Big Bang Theory. The Coopers' year has been eventful thus far as almost every member of Sheldon's family tackles complex arcs. For the boy genius, that's getting his grant database off the ground. George, on the other hand, continues to struggle with his increasingly complicated ties to Brenda Sparks. A particular plotline in Young Sheldon season 6, however, is the perfect justification for why the prequel series should finally leave The Big Bang Theory behind.

While George deals with his feelings with Brenda and Sheldon fights Young Sheldon's new villain, East Texas Tech, the series' primary narrative is arguably Mandy and Georgie's pregnancy arc. Set up in the prequel's 100th episode, the unexpected situation has brought so many changes for the Coopers. After a series of complications, everyone is just excited about the baby being born which is going to be sooner rather than later. This also means that the plotline is nearing its pre-determined end.

Georgie and Mandy exchange glances in Young Sheldon

Young Sheldon season 6 having to end Mandy and Georgie's arc demonstrates why the show should just totally ignore The Big Bang Theory. Aside from their baby's birth, Mandy and Georgie's romance has also become very interesting, especially now that she realizes how good he has been throughout this whole ordeal. Considering everything they have been through, it's difficult not to root for them to be together. Sadly, The Big Bang Theory ruined Georgie by revealing a future where he's successful professionally but struggles to maintain a great personal life with three failed marriages. This means that regardless of their Young Sheldon arc, Georgie and Mandy can never stay together.

Young Sheldon season 6, episode 11 proved how great Georgie and Mandy's narrative is. In the outing, Mandy celebrates her baby shower where she finally stands up to her own mother, who not only undermines the Coopers but also demeans Georgie. Mandy claims that Georgie will be a fantastic parent, which he will likely be considering how great he has been throughout all of this. However, since there was no mention of him having any kids in the future, it's still possible that they could lose the baby. While this could explain Mandy's absence in TBBT, it's also such a tragic turn of events for the Coopers' eldest.

Why Mandy & Georgie’s Romance Needs To Happen In Young Sheldon

Young Sheldon Mandy and Georgie

It's no secret that Young Sheldon tends to contradict The Big Bang Theory's established canon. While many of those plot inconsistencies can be inconsequential, there are others that have a significant impact on the shows' continuity. However, if there's any narrative that should finally convince CBS to let go of the idea that they exist in the same reality, it should be Mandy and Georgie's narrative. It's arguably one of the best original arcs that Young Sheldon has come up with, and it would be a shame if they ruin it just because The Big Bang Theory doesn't support their happy ending.

At this point, CBS' priority should be what's best for Young Sheldon's storytelling, especially considering how popular it is. While the Coopers are worse on The Big Bang Theory, it doesn't mean that the prequel can't come up with great storylines for them, and that's exactly what they are able to do with Georgie. It would be such a waste if they just give up on that simply because its parent series laid out a different future for the character. More than that, it would also be incredibly frustrating for those invested in the narrative to get any kind of pay-off from his romance with Mandy in Young Sheldon.

Young Sheldon season 6 airs Thursdays on CBS.
