Young Sheldon's executive producer Steve Holland clarifies when Sheldon's story about catching George cheating will happen. Ever since The Big Bang Theory revealed the heartbreaking origins of Sheldon's thrice-knocking ritual, there has been an interest in seeing how the whole incident played out in the prequel. Young Sheldon seemed to have set it up when George and Brenda first got together in season 4, but years have passed without witnessing the event.

After Young Sheldon's Mary and George blow-up, however, the time may have finally come to properly set up the storyline. The Big Bang Theory spin-off is now set in 1993 which means that it can happen anytime based on the established timeline. However, Holland is squashing hopes that the game-changing incident is on the horizon in a new interview with TV Line. In fact, he isn't even guaranteeing that Young Sheldon will show it at all. Read his full quote below:

Not in Season 6, but it’s possible that it will get addressed in the future. But again, without saying it didn’t happen, we’re not obligated to tell all the stories that Sheldon told on Big Bang. So I’m not saying we are or we’re not, but it’s not happening in Season 6. It could potentially happen in Season 7, and it’s a possibility we’ve talked about a lot, so it’s on the table. But just because it happened doesn’t mean it’s a story [our narrator] has to tell.

Will Young Sheldon Really Show George’s Cheating Incident?

Sheldon's story about walking in on his dad cheating on his mom has become one of the most memorable anecdotes from his time in Texas. While Young Sheldon cannot tackle every childhood story he told in Big Bang Theory, it is imperative that this is one shown on screen as it had a significant impact on the socially-inept genius' adult life. Admittedly, it's a tricky plot line to navigate considering how dark the incident is, but it's far too big of a narrative to skip.

In any case, the fact that Young Sheldon finally shows the confrontation between George and Brenda regarding their respective relationships with Brenda and Rob means that the family comedy is ready to tackle the breakdown of their marriage. For a while, it seemed like the couple was finally repairing their dynamic after years of conflict. But, as Sheldon repeatedly said in The Big Bang Theory, his parent's marriage was problematic, if not downright toxic.

Holland does promise that Young Sheldon will tackle the fallout from George and Mary's blow-up. Their argument will shape the remainder of the season, which means that happy days are over in the Cooper household. Hopefully, Mandy and Georgie's blossoming romance balances things out as they care for their new baby, Constance.
