WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS up to Young Monsters In Love #1

Love is in the air for the World's Finest Monsters at DC Comics this Valentine's Day, as the publisher presents Young Monsters In Love #1. With a title taken from the classic romance comics of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby (who pioneered the romance comic genre in between creating Captain America and The Sandman) and a Kelley Jones cover drawn from the equally infamous EC horror titles of the day, this is one prestige format book that is guaranteed to quicken your heartbeat one way or the other!

The cover (pictured below) promises a love triangle between Swamp Thing, Frankenstein and Bride.  The latter two characters, inspired by the works of Mary Shelley, are agents of the secretive U.S. government organization known as S.H.A.D.E. who attempt to neutralize various metahuman related threats before they endanger the public. Though Bride was literally created to be Frankenstein's ideal mate, she rejected him, saying they have nothing in common. Frankenstein still carries a torch for her, however, and hopes to prove her wrong.

The first four pages reveal that the opening story (written by Harley Quinn co-creator Paul Dini, with art by Gotham City Sirens artist Guillem March, colors by Dave McCaig and letters by Sal Cipriano) stars the body-possessing superhero Boston Brand (a.k.a. Deadman). An arrogant trapeze artist in life, Boston was given a chance at redemption by using his ghostly powers to save lives and do good by the goddess Rama Kushna. The story centers upon Boston's stepping in to stop a young man's accidental death and to teach a bully the error of his ways.

The book's synopsis is surprisingly coy about what other characters readers can expect to find hidden away within the pages of Young Monsters In Love #1. However, if the rest of the book's contents are as good as the Deadman story presented in this preview, this book will prove quite the sweet Valentine's Day treat for DC Comics' fans who enjoy a little romance, a little horror or a little bit of both.
