Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Young Justice: Phantoms, episode 3, "Volatile."

The closing credits sequence of a recent episode of Young Justice: Phantoms teased that Superman's infant son, Jonathan Kent, may have started developing the same powers as his father. This is a notable difference from the comics, where Jonathan Kent didn't show any signs of his Kryptonian heritage until he was ten years old. This may indicate that the showrunners of Young Justice are already planning to introduce the Super Sons in a future season.

Clark Kent and Lois Lane have had several sons named Jonathan in a number of comic books and in various adaptations, such as the television series Superman and Lois, where Jon Kent is the older of Superman's twin teenage sons. In the current DC Comics universe, Jonathan Kent was recently aged up to 18 years old and adopted the Superman name after several years of fighting crime with his father and the Damian Wayne Robin as Superboy. However, in the world of Young Justice, Jonathan Kent is still a baby and has only made a single appearance to date, in the Young Justice: Outsiders episode "Home Fires."

While not appearing on camera, Jon Kent was a point of reference during the closing scene of the Young Justice: Phantoms episode "Volatile." The brief scene, which ran under the closing credits, focused on Superman's boots, as he aired out his feet while sitting in a garden in the Justice League's Watchtower base while talking with his wife, Lois Lane on the phone. While the scene started out offering a light look at the life of Superman when he wasn't saving the world, it quickly took a dark comedic turn when it was suggested that his son's powers may have just activated at an inopportune time.

As Superman denied that he was shirking his duties as a father and trying to avoid diaper-changing duty, Lois noted that Jon had escaped his diaper again and that she had found poop on the ceiling. After confirming that Kryptonian poop does not defy gravity, Superman said that he hadn't considered the possibility that their son might learn how to use his Superman-like powers as a baby. The scene ended with Superman hurriedly telling Cyborg that he needed a Boom Tube portal to Earth immediately, after the phone signal began breaking up just after Lois had said something about Jon's eyes turning red.

While the Young Justice: Phantoms scene was played for laughs, it still opens up the possibility of Jon Kent being a super baby before he becomes Superboy. Given how the series has foreshadowed the coming of future heroes since the very beginning and featured a cameo of Damian Wayne in Young Justice: Outsiders, it's more than likely that the sons of Superman and Batman could be featured in a future storyline. However, given that Damian and Jon are still babies, it will be some time before the new Superboy and Robin of the comics join the cast of Young Justice.
