The trailer for season 4 of Young Justice warns that the DC Universe will change forever as the original team reunites and faves new challenges. Young Justice was created by Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman for Cartoon Network in 2010. The show is not based on the Young Justice comic line, instead telling an original story about young heroes. Although the series was originally canceled in 2013, it was renewed almost half a decade later, first airing on the digital DC platform before being finding a new home on HBO Max.
The young heroes featured in every season include Robin (Jesse McCartney), Aqualad (Khary Payton), Kid Flash (Jason Spisak), Superboy (Nolan North), Miss Martian (Danica McKellar), and Artemis Crock (Stephanie Lemelin). The show has followed them through many stages of their lives, involving a tight continuity and an interest in letting these characters grow and age realistically. Season 4 is titled Young Justice: Phantoms and the first two episodes premiered yesterday.

At the global live stream fan event DC FanDome 2021, a brand new trailer premiered for Young Justice: Phantoms. It promises that the events of the series will change the DC Universe forever. Appropriately, the storylines this season looks particularly solemn (though they can't resist throwing in a comic relief moment about a broken clipboard). This season will push teen angst to the superpowered max, challenging its protagonists to face the darker side of themselves. Check out the trailer below:
This season picks up a year after the events of season 3, which was titled Young Justice: Outsiders. Although Phantoms has a lot of episodes left to introduce new major storylines, it begins with the Young Justice crew being dragged into an intergalactic crime with massive consequences. When Superboy and Miss Martian arrive on Mars for their wedding, they discover that the Martian king has been assassinated, and the court is plagued with finger-pointing and infighting.
Judging by the trailer, Young Justice season 4 is not afraid to go to extremely dark places with its storyline. Many trailers for comics properties have promised huge changes to the universe that they fail to deliver, but Phantoms is setting itself up to make good on its promise. Opening on a wedding interrupted by a murder is more proof that the series is unique among its superhero cartoon brethren and willing to go places that are more disturbing and violent than the usual "young heroes" stories. This is also highlighted by one of the most alarming images in the trailer, which features Superboy punching somebody, getting his face covered in their blood. Now, that certainly feels portentous.
