It's official, You season 5 will be the end of the Netflix series, meaning it has a lot of stories to tie up before the final episode. Penn Badgley was hoping the series would come to an end as he didn't want it to become dragged out and wants his character Joe Goldberg to finally face accountability for his murder spree. You season 4 took Joe to London where he went undercover as a professor named Jonathan Moore. The protagonist faked his death during the You season 3 finale after murdering his wife, Love Quinn, and staging a murder-suicide, with Love as the killer.

However, by the end of You season 4, Joe has once again gotten away with murder, framed his student Nadia Farran, and has a new rich love interest with more inffluence and power than anyone he's been with before. This allows him to cover up his fake death and reemerge as Joe again. There are many roads You season 5 can go down, but if it's up to Badgley, things aren't going to end well for Joe. Hopefully, the series puts a lot of effort into solving the many mysteries that still exist ahead of the final season's premiere.

10 What Happens To Joe's Son?

Joe holding Henry in You

One of the biggest mysteries at the end of You season 4 surrounded Joe's son Henry. Joe last saw his son at the end of season 3 when he dropped him off on the doorstep of his friends Dante and Lansing's house. The two wanted a child together, and Joe made their dreams come true when he realized Henry would be better off with them as parents. After Joe killed Love and faked his own death, he knew keeping his son with him would be too risky and could potentially mess Henry up, as Joe's own childhood messed him up.

However, when Joe reclaims his identity at the end of You season 4, he makes no mention of getting his son back. The show has to address this because if Joe wants to keep his image clean, he can't look like a deadbeat dad. He has to keep the public believing he's an innocent victim and a good guy. A good guy would immediately go back to retrieve his son. Even if Joe decides Henry is better off with his new parents. You season 5 should at least make him act like he cares about getting his son back.

9 How Does Love's Family React To Joe Being Alive?

Love Quinn hugging her mom and Joe Goldberg looking confused in You

Joe had everyone except Love's family fooled when he faked his own death. Early into You season 4, Love's father sends his friend Elliot Tannenberg to London to kill Joe as revenge for murdering Love. However, Elliot doesn't actually want to kill Joe, so they make a deal. Joe pretends to be Jonathan, and Elliot returns to Love's father and tells him that he killed Joe.

Things take a turn at the end of You season 4, and now that Joe is back, Love's father won't be happy. He'll likely go after Joe again, and he'll probably confront his friend Elliot as well for lying to him. You can not end without addressing how Love's family reacts to Joe's reemergence in society. If they know the truth, they can easily expose him.

8 Where Is Jenna Ortega's Character Ellie?

Jenna Ortega and Penn Badgley as Ellie and Joe in You

Jenna Ortega has become the face of horror films and television for a new generation since her role as Ellie Alves in You season 2. After Joe murders her sister Delilah Alves, he tells Ellie to leave Los Angeles and agrees to send her money. However, once he fakes his death and becomes Jonathan, it's likely he can't send her money anymore. Unfortunately, You season 4 never addresses this.

Ortega was set to appear in You season 4, but due to schedule conflicts with Wednesday, she wasn't able to reprise the role. Hopefully, she can work You season 5 into her schedule because it would be unfortunate if the series ended without an explanation of what happened to Ellie.

7 Does Joe Find Out Marienne Is Still Alive?

Joe and Marienne from You

Marienne is one of Joe's luckier victims. With help from Nadia, she makes it out of Joe's glass cage alive, even though she has to fake her own death to get out of there. By the end of the season, Marienne is seen back in Paris with her daughter, reading the article about Joe reemerging in New York as a domestic abuse victim.

Joe still believes Marienne is dead, but before the finale, fans are dying to know if Joe ever finds out that Marienne is still alive. Marienne is incredibly intelligent, and it would be great to see her be the one to take down Joe. However, if he finds out she's still alive before she gets the chance to prove he's guilty, her life will be in great danger.

6 What Is The Significance Of Joe Seeing Rhys?

Joe and Rhys in You season 4

There's still so much mystery surrounding the imaginary Rhys Joe speaks to throughout You season 4. He is clearly a projection of Joe's dark killer side, but it's unclear why Joe chooses him to be his imaginary accomplice. At the end of the season, Joe sees Rhys' reflection in the window, meaning he'll likely appear in You season 5 too. The final season needs to offer an explicit explanation as to why Joe keeps seeing Rhys everywhere, especially when he didn't even know the real politician when he was alive.

5 Will Nadia Come Clean About Joe?

Joe and Nadia in You Season 4

When Joe frames Nadia for killing her friend Eddie, she's locked in prison and never confesses that Joe was actually the one to kill her friend and all the other London victims. This storyline doesn't make much sense since Nadia went to extremes to prove Joe was guilty, only to take the fall for his crimes. With Marienne still alive and aware of the truth about Joe, the two could team up together in the final season.

Hopefully, Nadia isn't just a You season 4 character left in the past because there's certainly more to her story. She knows a lot about Joe, and if she can find the courage to speak up, she can take him down and free herself.

4 How Much Does Kate Know About Joe's Past?

You season 4 character Kate

When Kate visits Joe in the hospital, he confesses to murder. Surprisingly, she doesn't run. She understands him and later helps him create the story about Love's murder which allows him to return to the world as himself. However, the extent of what Kate knows about Joe is a mystery. It's not clear if she knows about everyone Joe has ever killed or that he has a pattern of murdering the women he dates. This is crucial information that You season 5 needs to include. If Kate does know all about Joe's history and still agrees to be with him, she might be his perfect match and more unstable than Love.

3 Will Being Back In New York Connect Joe To Beck's Murder?

You season 1's Joe and Beck

The main reason Joe has gotten away with murder so many times isn't that he comes up with genius cover-up stories but because he immediately flees the crime scene and starts fresh in another city. However, at the end of You season 4, Joe returns to New York, bringing the story full circle.

This is a dangerous move as he murdered Beck and her inner circle when he was in New York and hasn't been back since. You season 5 has to address everything that went on the last time Joe was in the east coast city and showcase how what he did in You season 1 affects his present-day life. It's very likely his return to New York can connect him to Beck's murder.

2 Will Joe Every Reunite With His Mother?

Joe and his mom in You

Joe's rough upbringing is seemingly what led to him becoming a vicious murderer. As a child, he killed his mother, Sandy's abusive boyfriend, and his own father. Sandy eventually abandoned him, and Joe later sees her living in a brownstone with her new family, including her son Jacob. Not much else is known about Joe's mother, though the final season has the potential to reunite them. Sandy's likely heard the news that he faked his own death and might be curious to know what really happened. Bringing Sandy back would also give a more in-depth look into Joe's childhood and how it really led him to become a killer.

1 What Will Joe's Fate Be?

Mock-up of Joe Goldberg in jail

The biggest question You season 5 must answer is what will happen to Joe? If Badgley has his way, Joe will finally be arrested for his crimes. However, this doesn't mean the show will go in this direction. The worse decision would be to leave Joe's fate as a cliffhanger. The show will feel incomplete if there is not a clear fate for its main character. Since every other season has left things open for a possible return, the final season has to make it clear this is the end.

If the series goes against Badgley's wishes and keeps him out of trouble, there needs to be a proper ending to his murder spree, maybe he reunites with his mother, and she covers up his crimes and gets him help for real this time. Another option would be for Joe to finally be the victim of someone else's murder. Marienne could be the one to kill him and get justice for all of Joe's victims. Whichever route You season 5 takes, Joe's ending has to be satisfying.
