You season 4 follows Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgely) in London under the guise of professor Jonathan Moore. However, it doesn’t take long for Joe to fall back into his old habits and become involved with a group of rich elites. At first, Joe tries to find the Eat The Rich killer who is killing off his new “friends,” but it is eventually revealed that Joe is the Eat The Rich killer. After many twists and turns, most You season 4 characters endure fairly miserable endings. One character, however, seems to escape largely unblemished.
Lady Phoebe (Tilly Keeper) is a social media influencer related to the royal family. While out of touch, Phoebe is mostly harmless and is nearly swindled out of part of her money by marrying Adam. Despite their differences, Kate and Phoebe are best friends, which keeps her safe from Joe. You season 4, part 2 dedicates a good chunk of screen time to Phoebe, including giving her a stalker. Phoebe becomes more sympathetic as You season 4 continues, which makes her ending fitting. Here's why Phoebe is the only character in You season 4 who truly gets a happy ending.
Lady Phoebe Is The Only Character Who Got A Real Happy Ending In You Season 4
At the end of You season 4, Lady Phoebe was revealed to be teaching children in Thailand. Out of all the characters, Lady Phoebe escapes the soulless elite circle and decides to live a fulfilling life as a teacher. Phoebe’s character development throughout You season 4 makes her happy ending deserved. Her decision to leave also likely puts Adam in a financially vulnerable situation, which he no doubt deserves.
In You season 4, Phoebe is one of the most likable characters who grows significantly after her interaction with her stalker Dawn. After her wedding, Phoebe seems to be shell-shocked until she gathers the confidence to leave her wedding. While her friends continue their self-destructive lifestyle, Phoebe demonstrates a true capacity for change. Her continued development as a character and generally harmless personality means that of all You season 4's characters, Phoebe was arguably the most deserving of happiness.
What Happened To The Other Characters In You Season 4?
Although it might seem as though other You characters ended up in a good place, closer inspection reveals that all is not as well as it seems. For instance, while Joe may seem like he got a happy ending, his past is sure to catch up with him in a possible You season 5, suggesting his story isn't actually over. Equally, though Kate may have inherited her father’s fortune and found her love, she likely doesn’t appreciate the full extent of how dangerous her new boyfriend is. Similarly, while Marienne did escape and reunite with her daughter, she will always be looking over her shoulders for Joe. As for other members of the You season 4 elite group, Roald shot a friend in a hunting accident and Connie relapsed.
You season 4, part 1 may have made the entire elite group look awful and shallow. However, You season 4, part 2 proves that not all the characters were irredeemable. As one of the pure characters, Phoebe ties up her business and moves away to live a fulfilling life. The rest of the character’s fate won’t be revealed until You season 5 is confirmed and released, but for now, she got her happy ending.
