Warning: Contains SPOILERS for You season 4, part 1!You season 4's Eat the Rich killer established a signature trend with their first two kills, but the pattern was broken with the third victim. Much of You season 4, part 1 revolved around Joe Goldberg's attempts to figure out which member of his new friend group was secretly a killer and knew about his past. It was only near the end of the first half of the season that it was confirmed that Rhys is the Eat the Rich killer. The revelation came after Joe suspected nearly every other member of the group more seriously, and he learned the hard way the lengths Rhys would go to cover his tracks.

Before You season 4, part 1 confirmed that Rhys was the Eat the Rich killer, Joe was left with a few different clues for who the murderer could be. This included the killer developing an unofficial signature. Not only was Rhys targeting his rich friends who he had problems with, but he developed a habit of stabbing them in the chest with a knife as his method of killing. You season 4 also introduced a subtle signature for the Eat the Rich killer before it was broken.

You’s Eat the Rich Killer Took Body Parts From His First 2 Victims

You Season 4 Malcolm Finger Cut

The Eat the Rich killer's signature in You season 4 was cutting off body parts from his victims and taking them. This began when Rhys killed Malcolm in an attempt to frame Joe for the murder. When Joe investigated the body left in his apartment, he discovered that Malcolm's finger was cut off. While Joe originally thought that this meant he cut off Malcolm's finger and lost it, he later came to realize that this was part of You season 4's killer's plot when it was sent to the newspaper confirming that Malcolm is dead and not kidnapped.

Once Rhys strikes again and kills Simon after his art gallery opening, the Eat the Rich killer's signature trend of taking parts of his victims' bodies continued. Instead of taking one of Simon's fingers, Rhys cut off one of his ears. It is only after killing Simon that Rhys gets the Eat the Rich killer nickname. The trend of what happens to the Eat the Rich killer's victims and their bodies is one of the many reasons why Simon and Malcolm's deaths were linked. However, Rhys did not continue this trend when he killed Gemma.

Why Rhys Didn't Take One of Gemma's Body Parts

You Season 4 Gemma

The reason that Rhys did not take one of Gemma's body parts when she died in You season 4 and keep the Eat the Rich killer's signature going is because it lost its true purpose. Rhys did not start cutting off parts of his victims' bodies for fun or to be his signature. The real reason he took the victims' body parts is so that he could use them to blackmail Joe into playing part of his game. It was Rhys who sent Malcolm's finger to the press, and he threatened to do the same with Simon's ear with a message that implicated Joe if he did not cooperate.

By the time Rhys killed Gemma in You season 4, part 1, he no longer needed to keep blackmailing Joe. This made taking one of Gemma's body parts unnecessary, meaning Rhys did not need to do it again. Assuming he decides to kill more people in You season 4, part 2, it will be fascinating to see if the trend of what happens to the Eat the Killer's victims' bodies returns.
