Netflix's YOU season 2 teaser trailer has been released and it reveals Joe to be living in Los Angeles with a new identity. The series stars Penn Badgley (Gossip Girl) as Joe Goldberg, a seemingly quiet but charismatic and intense bookstore owner living in NYC. The interesting thing about Joe is that he lives something of a double life. In season 1, he meets the beautiful Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) in his store and becomes completely obsessed with her. They begin a relationship that soon reveals Joe has a dangerous past and everyone he comes into contact with, especially his love interests, are in danger.

It was revealed last month that YOU season 2 would release on December 26th. Based on the Caroline Kepnes novels of the same name, it seems as though making the move to Los Angeles opens up a whole new world of storytelling for the protagonist. A lot of details about the new season have been kept under wraps, but we do know that Joe will have a whole new obsession named Love Quinn, played by The Haunting of Hill House's Victoria Pedretti. It should also be interesting to see him connect with his former girlfriend Candace, who was revealed to be very much alive in the season 1 finale.

The official YOU season 2 teaser trailer brings us back into the mind and inner dialogue of Joe, which has always possessed a dark and twisted sense of humor. We're met with a quick shot of palm trees and the Hollywood hills, which then jumps to Joe walking into a typical coffee house in Los Angeles, as his inner monologue reveals he finds L.A. to be "as dark as it gets." As he scans the shop with a sullen look on face, he comments on how everyone around him is pretending to be something they're not, as they all seem to be putting on a facade for social media and the people that they meet along the way.

As he scopes out a woman typing on a laptop working away on a screenplay, which Joe can't respect as it's not a novel, he can't help but notice how everyone around him is continuously pretending to be someone they're not. With that comes the coffee barista behind the counter asking to take a name for his order. That's when it's revealed Joe is now going by the name of Will. That's right, of course there's a dark and twisted irony behind Joe's, or now Will's, inner dialogue because he is literally pretending to be someone else now that he's living in Los Angeles.

It's really fun to see this big reveal for YOU season 2 come forth in this way because so much of what makes the series fun to watch is that, even though Joe is dark, intense and violent, the audience is always privy to his inner dialogue, the way he thinks and how he moves around in the world. So, to be able to hear him discuss how the masses are just basically lifeless drones pretending to be something they're not, to then learn he has now changed his identity in this big city, it creates such a darkly and ironically humorous place for season 2 to jump off from. We're curious to see exactly how things will pan out for Will in Los Angeles.
