Why You People Should Be A Global Hit

You People Eddie Murphy and Nia Long sit on a bench

You People has a lot of similar aspects working for it that made the Netflix comedy flick Murder Mystery one of the top performers for the streaming service, which leads credence to You People's global reach being wider than many realize. Murder Mystery had a great cast, led by genre veterans Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in charming roles. The same applies to You People, which stars comedy greats Murphy & Hill and boasts a talented cast that includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lauren London, Mike Epps, Nia Long, Rhea Perlman, David Duchovny, and more.

Anchored by two all-star comedy actors, Hill and Murphy, You People serves as another step for Murphy's return to fame after a time away from the spotlight. The veteran actor's situation feels similar to what Sandler was going through in his career during the making of Murder Mystery. The action-comedy served as the first step of a three-punch sequence of flicks that started his Hollywood renaissance, alongside drama Uncut Gems and seasonal comedy Hubie Halloween, the latter also over at Netflix. Although circumstances are similar, Murphy's turn in You People's farther along in his return to the spotlight, as the star has shown no beats were missed reprising Prince Akeem Joffer in the sequel Coming 2 America and Murphy's upcoming return in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley should offer another excellent nostalgic performance to his fans.

Murphy began his return to fame at Netflix, another exciting connection that should prove fruitful for You People. The actor starred in the 2019 biographical comedy Dolemite Is My Name, which was a major player for the streamer, winning the Critics' Choice Movie Awards for Best Comedy and Murphy earning a nomination for Best Actor. Murphy aside, his co-star Hill also has a famous relationship with Netflix that should get subscribers to tune in for You People when it debuts at the streamer. Hill starred in the star-studded Don't Look Up, which set a new record for the most viewing hours in a single week at Netflix, becoming the second-most-watched movie on Netflix within 28 days of release. The fan-favorite status of its leading duo and the hilarious first teaser should set up the comedy as the next global hit when You People debuts on Netflix on January 27.
