One of the most popular games on the Super Nintendo, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, released in 1995. Since then, it's gotten two sequels and spiritual successors like Yoshi's Crafted World on the Nintendo Switch. However, Yoshi's Island has never gotten the true remaster it deserves. It's time to change that.

The plot of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island on SNES follows Baby Mario as he's rescued by a Yoshi tribe. Together, the various Yoshis and Baby Mario must trek across the island, avoiding pitfalls and encounters with the evil Kamek, in order to get the infant Mario to safety. Since his introduction in the first Super Mario World, Yoshi has appeared in over 40 titles. The little dinosaur is easily one of the most loved characters Nintendo ever created.

In the years that have followed, Yoshi has appeared in many of his own video game spin-offs, most recently as the star of Yoshi's Crafted World on Nintendo Switch. Two sequels to Yoshi's Island released, including Yoshi's Island DS in 2006 and Yoshi's New Island on 3DS in 2014. However, there hasn't been a true remaster of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Now, however, the timing is perfect.

This year marks the 35th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros., and Nintendo is celebrating by releasing remasters of several popular Mario titles. Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a collection of three of the most popular 3D Mario games ever, and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is expected in early 2021. With all the new Mario remasters happening, it would be a great time for Nintendo to remaster a few of the older classics like Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island as well.

With the success of the Nintendo Switch, a remaster of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island could sell incredibly well. People are nostalgic for old titles, and the two-for-one combo of Yoshi and Baby Mario makes for a cute, fun adventure that fans have adored for over twenty years. Will Nintendo ever release a remaster of Yoshi's Island? It's always possible, and for now, fans of the game can play the original as part of Nintendo Switch Online's SNES library.

Typically, Nintendo has been hesitant to release remastered versions of its older games. However, a remaster of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island would be amazing. The game could be right at home on the Nintendo Switch, so perhaps fans will finally get one as the game nears its next big anniversary.
