In a slew of original titles being announced by Nintendo at E3 2017, the forthcoming colorful action platformer Yoshi has just received an official trailer. Borrowing heavily from the iconic title character's past with a visual aestheticism and mechanical design that is reminiscent of Yoshi's Wooly World for the WiiU from 2015 and Super Paper Mario for the Wii from 2007, the latest title featuring Mario's longtime companion is sure to draw the attention of Super Mario Bros. fans the world over.

Ever since the character was first introduced in Super Mario World on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System way back in 1990 - and subsequently in his first spinoff title Yoshi's Island from 1995 - the green dragon-like creature has remained a constant fixture within the stable of original properties at Nintendo. Now with the impending release of Yoshi for the Nintendo Switch, the character will be receiving his next adventure on a current generation console next year.

In the footage featured above, potential players can catch their first look at all of the colorful action platforming soon to come from Yoshi proper when it makes its way to the Nintendo Switch in 2018. Centering around a core narrative conceit that has the titular character making his way across a brightly decorated diorama, the latest release from Nintendo is sure to please longtime fans of the trademark franchise as described by the official plot synopsis below:

Yoshi heads on a new adventure in this new action platforming game coming to Nintendo Switch. Explore a great big world decorated like a miniature diorama, look for items throughout the stages, and team up with a friend in a new art style for the franchise.

Yoshi on Nintendo Switch

All of the gameplay elements look to be a fitting progression for all of the familiar core mechanics first introduced to players in Yoshi's World, coupled with the new game's unique aesthetic style and co-op feature. In due time players can decide for themselves how well Yoshi fits into its surrounding franchise when the game sees commercial release in 2018.

Yoshi already looks like a more than worthy companion to fellow Nintendo Switch franchise title Super Mario Odyssey, and with any luck the game will prove to be a commercial success. In the mean time, here's to hoping for the very best from the forthcoming action platformer for the Nintendo Switch.

Yoshi will see release on the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2018.
