If Yes Day 2 happens, here's when it can release and what its story may be about. Miguel Arteta's family film hasn't been well-received by critics since releasing in March 2021, but the comedy seems to resonate with audiences in general. However, since Yes Day doesn't blatantly tease a second Netflix movie, fans may be wondering if there's any hope for a sequel.

Yes Day stars Jennifer Garner and Édgar Ramírez as Allison and Carlos Torres, respectively, a California couple with differing parenting techniques. Whereas Allison is viewed as a dictator by her children, Carlos is more of a child-at-heart, someone who doesn't mind embracing spontaneity for the sake of family fun. When Garner's character learns about the concept of "Yes Day," she agrees to let her children make the rules for 24 hours. Unfortunately, she ends up in jail and subsequently tries to find her eldest child, Katie (Jenna Ortega), at Fleek Fest. Yes Day co-stars Julian Lerner as Nando Torres and Everly Carganilla as Ellie Torres.

The climax of Netflix's Yes Day resolves the familial conflict but doesn't quite end with a bang, aside from the Torres house being overloaded with foam. However, the character dialogue does suggest that Yes Day 2 could be made at some point, possibly with the character roles being reversed.

Will Yes Day 2 Happen?

Yes Day 2 hasn't been ordered by Netflix. If the family movie proves to be a trending hit, then producers and executives will likely track streaming numbers for several months before greenlighting a sequel. There's tremendous star power with Garner, Ramírez, and even an up-and-coming actress like Ortega, while supporting players like Arturo Castro and Fortune Feimster provide strong comedic performances. So, even if Yes Day isn't a critical hit, Netflix will at least consider the possibility of a new movie.

Yes Day 2 Release Date

Yes Day has massive potential because of the family-friendly humor and chemistry amongst the main performers. If streamers rally for a new film, then Netflix may plan for a quick turnaround and schedule the sequel for a 2023 release. Given the original movie's modest scope of production and brisk 86-minute runtime, Yes Day 2 could easily be produced and released by 2023, though potential scheduling conflicts could theoretically delay a sequel until 2024.

Yes Day's ending shows Allison taking the stage at Fleek Fest, and recruiting the musician H.E.R. to help find Kate. Meanwhile, the others attempt to prevent a house party from getting out of control. By the end, the Torres family bonds during a backyard camping scene, and the Netflix movie concludes without a traditional cliffhanger. However, Allison states that she's looking forward to the "next" Yes Day, and Carlos takes a more stern approach with the children, which suggests that a sequel could be all about the continued evolution of Garner's character (and how her family responds). In that case, Yes Day 2 would be similar in spirit to the 2008 Jim Carrey movie Yes Man.
