The Yellowstone universe is expanding, with several upcoming seasons, spinoffs, and prequels in the works. The Paramount+ and Peacock original series comes from writer/director Taylor Sheridan, who is known for acclaimed films like SicarioWind River, and Hell or High Water. Thanks to the incredible success of the main show, Paramount has given Sheridan the freedom to develop multiple different shows around Yellowstone.

Sheridan's franchise plans for Yellowstone came from relatively humble beginnings. The first season received mixed reviews but was still a highly-viewed series for Paramount Network. It wasn't until Yellowstone's subsequent seasons that it became critically acclaimed and Emmy-nominated as more people tuned in to watch the Dutton family and Kevin Costner's lead performance.

Although Yellowstone was already the biggest Paramount Network show in history upon its debut, the increased popularity of later seasons is what allowed the universe to expand. It's also allowed Taylor Sheridan to explore other avenues and create more shows for Paramount+ and Peacock. Yellowstone is still his central focus, though, and it is clear with all the different current and upcoming shows.

How To Watch Yellowstone Season 4 Paramount+ Or Peacock

The flagship series of the franchise, Yellowstone season 4 is in the middle of its run. The new 10-episode story continues to focus on Costner's John Dutton and his family, which includes cast members Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, and Cole Hauser. Yellowstone season 4 premiered on Paramount Network on November 7, and new episodes are not available to watch on either Parmaount+ or Peacock. There is currently no confirmation that Yellowstone will continue beyond season 4, but it does seem quite likely that season 5 should be announced before too long.

1883

If it wasn't obvious by its title, 1883 is a Yellowstone prequel exploring the origins of the Dutton family ranch. The prequel is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Paramount+ on December 19, 2021. It stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Billy Bob Thorton, and Sam Elliott, with McGraw and Elliott playing members of the Dutton family who began building the ranching empire. The series is fittingly set in 1883 and shows them traveling to Montana in the midst of westward expansion.

6666

6666 Yellowstone spin-off

There is also Yellowstone spinoff in the works titled 6666. The show will be a change of pace for the franchise as it shifts its setting from the plains of Montana to Texas. 6666's title refers to the historic Four Sixes Ranch in King County. Yellowstone season 4 set up the spinoff by revealing that ranch hand Jimmy (Jefferson White) is leaving the Duttons to go to Texas, implying he'll be part of the Yellowstone spinoff's cast.

On top of the main show, a prequel, and a spinoff, Taylor Sheridan also created Mayor of Kingstown for Paramount+, which many viewers have theorized may be connected to Yellowstone. Despite speculation, however, the shows are unrelated. Sheridan made Mayor of Kingstown as part of his overall deal with Paramount following Yellowstone's success. There is currently no evidence to suggest the two shows are connected and Sheridan hasn't confirmed it either. That said, there is a chance that could change and result in Jeremy Renner and Kyle Chandler's power brokers crossing over with the Yellowstone universe.
