The Yellowstone season 5 premiere episode's title, "One Hundred Years Is Nothing" may be hinting at the eventual fall of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. Out of the several Yellowstone season 5 episode titles revealed by actor Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton on the show, "One Hundred Years Is Nothing" is the most loaded. On one hand, it could be speaking to the sheer tenacity of the Duttons, who continue to hold on to their land after over a century since they first claimed it. On the other hand, "One Hundred Years Is Nothing" could also be a reference to the ancient indigenous laws that predate the Westward Expansion of the United States by millennia. This latter possibility is further supported by the confirmed return of Q'orianka Kilcher's Angela Blue Thunder in Yellowstone season 5.

Angela was the corporate shark hired by Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) back in Yellowstone season 3. After Thomas and John Dutton (Kevin Costner) agreed to put their differences aside to pursue a mutual enemy, they arranged a meeting between Beth and Angela, who began to plan how to take down the enemies of both the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and the Confederated Tribes of Broken Rock. After all concerned parties failed to reach an agreement in the Yellowstone season 3 finale, Angela reprimanded Thomas for bending his knee to the white man. Sternly, Angela reminded the Chief of Broken Rock that it is his duty to protect the land and his people at any cost, as mandated by ancient indigenous laws that precede the legal claims of either the Duttons or Market Equities. Strangely, Angela Blue Thunder disappeared after that and wasn't mentioned again. However, combined with Kayce Dutton's (Luke Grimes) visions, which herald a dark ending for the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, Angela's return is bound to deliver the ending foreshadowed in her debut.

In fact, the title of Yellowstone season 5, episode 1, "One Hundred Years Is Nothing" could easily be a line of dialog from the fiery Angela. Compared to the thousands of years that the people of Broken Rock have spent as stewards of the land, the mere century-long history of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is nothing. Indeed, there are too many ways for the Duttons to lose this fight. While the Duttons remain the de facto rulers of Paradise Valley, the odds are actually stacked against them in Yellowstone season 5.

Yellowstone Season 5: How The Duttons Will Lose

Why Yellowstone season 5 should be the last

John may become governor of Montana, Beth has blackmailed Jamie (Wes Bentley) into submission, and the Duttons and Broken Rock seem to be headed toward an alliance against Market Equities, but this is not the united front that it appears to be at first. Angela's return implies that Yellowstone will follow through on her teased team-up with Beth, who previously revealed that she doesn't really care about the ranch, and is only fighting for her father's sake. This is more than enough for Angela to turn Beth to her cause, especially if it means saving John from further fights. Meanwhile, Beth is bound to continue tormenting Jamie, especially after she secured evidence of Jamie killing his biological father and disposing of the body in the Yellowstone season 4 ending. Though Beth effectively owns Jamie, she might also be inadvertently cornering a wounded animal, and Jamie, who is still Montana's attorney general, may find a way to retaliate from the inside.

Yellowstone season 5 could also see Kayce finally choosing to side with the Confederated Tribes of Broken Rock, which accepted him as a full member after he underwent a vision quest last season. As Kayce told his wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille), when he finally spoke to his spirit animal, he saw "the end of us." Moreover, after Market Equities CEO, Caroline Warner (Jacki Weaver) threatened to pave over the ranch and turn the Dutton home into a toilet, Kayce's prophetic visions of death and betrayal could become reality in Yellowstone season 5. Considering the presence of Angela Blue Thunder, it's even possible that Caroline may be able to use Broken Rock to kick the Duttons out. After seven generations of Duttons in Yellowstone, it might be time for someone else to watch over this land.
