Paramount Network debuts a new trailer for Yellowstone season 4, confirming the Kevin Costner-led Western drama will premiere this fall. Created by Sicario's Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, the series centers on the Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in the United States, as they face conflicts with the bordering Native reservations and national parks, as well as family drama. Alongside Costner, the cast for the series includes Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, Danny Huston, and Josh Lucas.

First premiering in 2018, the series received mixed reviews for its melodramatic storytelling, but it quickly became the most-watched original scripted program for Paramount Network and its predecessor Spike. Thanks to consistently strong ratings, the series was continually renewed and has since received progressively better reviews from critics and higher viewership numbers. This success has also led to the development of multiple spin-offs, including Paramount+'s prequel series Y: 1883, which is expected to premiere later this year.

After getting a bit of a rocky start, the show has gotten progressively better and season 3 saw it reach some of its most exciting highs in terms of storytelling. Though the season 3 finale saw the Sheridan and his writer's room taking a Dallas-like approach with a cliffhanger begging the question of who shot the family patriarch, it certainly came at a more organic point in the plot than the iconic '70s soap opera. The last chapter of the show certainly saw it taking a tone closer to Netflix's Ozark and the bar for both shows' returns are equally high.

Though the trailer may act as a bit of a reminder about what went on in the season 3 finale, including the attempted bombing of Beth, there was one interesting tease seen for Yellowstone season 4: Costner's John Dutton is still alive, for the time being. Having taken a few shots to the chest, things were pretty dire when last he was on the screen, so the trailer's confirmation that he is still breathing when Hauser's Rip Wheeler arrives on screen should serve as a sigh of relief. Only time will tell whether Rip can get him to medical aid in time when the series returns later this year.
