Yellowjackets star Sophie Nélisse, who plays a young Shauna Shipman in the thriller drama, says season 2 of the acclaimed series will see even more graphic violence than season 1. Debuting on Showtime in 2021, Yellowjackets proved itself as a gripping, mystery-laden series about what happened to a group of girls high school soccer players after surviving a plane crash, and how their adult lives have been impacted by their experiences. The Emmy-nominated series is no stranger to graphic depictions of blood and gore, as the show's opening scene features a girl who falls into a spike pit, setting the tone for the rest of the series.

In an interview with Variety, Nélisse said that Yellowjackets season 2 will be even more violent than the first. She cites episode 6 as the most intense of the season, with the episode seemingly acting as a climactic payoff for the first half of the season. Check out what Nélisse had to say below:

There’s scenes in Season 2 that are graphic, to say the least, and I remember just doing it, and [the cast] all sat and looked at each other, and we were like ‘What the f*** are we doing. Like, literally, what the f*** are we doing.' You’ll look at it, and you’ll understand, but I don’t think you’ve ever seen such a scene in TV before.

When I read this specific episode, I remember being terrified. Episode 6 — it gets very intense. I read it, and I was like, very excited, and then immediately sobbed. I was talking to my psychologist, and I was like, ‘I can’t do it, I’m not good enough for this,’ and I was freaking out.

Nélisse's confirmation of a more graphic Yellowjackets season 2 hints at the cannibalistic developments audiences know will be coming in the future for the group of girls trapped in the wilderness. Season 1, episode 1 already detailed how some of the girls survived the winter in the woods by hunting down other girls and eating them. So far, the series hasn't shown this to audiences in detail, with the Yellowjackets season 1 finale ending just as winter began to set in on the forest. Due to what audiences know about the timeline of the Yellowjackets' survival, it appears viewers will be getting their first glimpse at cannibalism sometime during season 2.

It appears that major conflicts will also arise within the group during season 2's upcoming cruel winter. With Lottie beginning her transformation into the leader of the cannibalistic cult, it seems viewers will be treated to more inner conflict as they learn more about the girls' time surviving. The consequences of what transpires are bound to be part of the adult storyline as well, especially now that an adult Lottie has seemingly captured Natalie. The culmination of the show's intensity seems like it will transpire in episode 6, perhaps giving viewers more context about Lottie's role following the girls' rescue from the forest.

While Nélisse's statement applies to the girls' experiences as high schoolers, there are still many intense mysteries that have followed them into adulthood that are sure to be answered come season 2. One of these is Taissa's mysterious, tree-climbing alter ego from her time in the forest, which seems to have manifested in her adult life, scaring her child and killing her family's dog. Another is Misty's dealings with investigator Jessica Roberts, whose fate in the season 1 finale is unclear after she crashes her car following Misty poisoning her. The many mounting mysteries throughout Yellowjackets are sure to make season 2 an intense, thrilling time for viewers waiting for answers.
