The official Yellowjackets season 2 trailer has dropped. The hit series, which premiered on Showtime in November 2021, was renewed for season 2 the very next month and went on to earn seven Emmy nominations. The series follows two different timelines, the first in the mid-1990s when a group of teenagers fights to survive in the wilderness after a plane crash, and the second in the modern day when the grown-up survivors attempt to get a handle on their life despite the mysterious happenings that linger from their time in the woods.
Earlier this morning, the official Twitter account for the Showtime series posted a live video featuring a candle burning down, asking fans to submit offerings in the replies for a reward, releasing the official teaser for the upcoming Yellowjackets season 2 about an hour later.
The trailer reveals that winter has fallen on the camp set up by the ‘90s survivors, while their adult selves learn that the situation was even more sinister than they realized. With the revelation that they "weren’t alone out there,” it seems that what happened in the wilderness is starting again, not helped by the activities of the cult run by the adult Lottie (Simone Kessell).
Everything Revealed In The Yellowjackets Season 2 Trailer
As well as teasing some of the creepy happenings of the upcoming season, the clip gives a first look at many of the new characters who have joined this season. In addition to Kessel, who joined the series for season 2, the adult version of Liv Hewson's Van will also be introduced, played by Six Feet Under's Lauren Ambrose. The trailer also reveals a first look at Lord of the Rings trilogy star Elijah Wood as citizen detective Walter, who teams up with the adult Misty (Christina Ricci) to get to the bottom of some of the strange events in the modern timeline.
It seems that things are heating up in both timelines in the upcoming season. In the '90s, things are turning ugly as winter descends, with the cannibalistic urges of the girls turning up a notch as tribalism turns them against one another. Who or what is out there in the woods with them remains unknown, but it is likely that the mystery will be revealed by the end of season 2, though the upcoming Yellowjackets season 3, which has already been renewed, would presumably have much more to reveal beyond that.
In the modern day, the teaser promises that it will follow up on the cliffhanger over the fate of adult Natalie (Juliette Lewis), whose troubled psyche might lead her too deep into Lottie's cult. All in all, none of the characters seem to have their lives together, as revealed by the various glimpses of tearful and troubling scenes. While there are still very many Yellowjackets mysteries that this teaser leaves unanswered, it promises to provide fans with a thrill ride just as intense as the original season, with plenty of mayhem coming from every direction as the characters, also including Melanie Lynskey and Sophie Nélisse's Shauna and Kevin Alves' Travis, move further into the darkness.
